Given that a number of GOP Senators appear to have succumbed or been exposed to Covid19, and assuming that Amy Coney Barret and they have to isolate for what ? - 14 days; what are the chances of getting her through the senate hearing and a vote before Nov 3?

Grupta said today that he thinks the ACB Nomination ceremony was the Super Spreader Event that started this whole meltdown! :D

Barrett reportedly had the virus already this summer. I presume she and her supporters don't think she needs to isolate.

Hmm: I did not explain my point too well. Even if Barrett does not have to isolate herself, there are at least two infected GOP Senators so far. Given the more Gung ho attitude of GOP Senators to Masks /Social Distancing it would be a delicious irony if the GOP lost their majority, albeit temporarily, because of Covid19 exposure, and consequently had to postpone the hearing.

And if the numbers do not break the D's way they can now argue cogently that holding the hearing so soon is another example of irresponsible infection management by the GOP.

And the Republicans would/will care because . . . ?

In the midst of all this today, McConnell declared full speed ahead on confirmation before the election.

Being a human being isn't required (or tolerated, it seems) to be a Republican.

True: Tillis of NC. and Lee of Utah are definitely infected. Collins of Maine and the Alaskan Senator said they would not vote (But who would trust either?).

McConnell's latest ploy is that he will hold the hearing 'virtually.'

Maybe I'm grasping at straws but the virus could yet have the last word. :)

You're thinking of Democrats.

I'd make a list, but you know the shame of being a willing dumbass and liar.

They lie so much that they can't stop lying, ever, even when the lie gets too big. Can't they spy, pilot, actor, bisexual man with a family and globe trotting dick on the side, editor, best selling author, night club runner, presidential brief writer, and what the else have you done?

SAD!!!

Wrong forum moron foreigner. Petition management to s5tart a "virus" forum. You're just a few votes away (Management here is as weak as the mayor of Portland, just be a little bitch, they'll cave. They're even littler bitches.)

Two senators on judiciary committee. One additional. So three total. All republicans.

Wouldn't Mitch have to have a vote to change the rules for remote voting?

Mitch will change the rules. His behaviors will not suddenly change.

The People of Praise nominee will likely be shoved through the Heaven's Gate access to the Supreme Court.

Get ready for the USA version of Sharia Law.

Doesn't there have to be a quorum present to change the rules?

I love that you hold out rays of hope...

Oh I'm pretty sure she's a done deal. I'm just wondering about the mechanics that Mitch will have to work through in order to continue on his quest to stack the court.

And I appreciate that you are considering any possible roadblocks to these mechanics. It's much easier to be cynical and skip that important consideration.

Can't I be both informed and cynical? :D

My observation is that you exercise your right to express a wide range of traits, that you don't take yourself too seriously, and that you don't put up with crap from people who do take themselves too seriously.

Yes, please continue to be both informed and cynical.

I think that's a compliment.... :D

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Saturday the confirmation hearing for Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett will go forward as planned despite the president, first lady, numerous senators and White House staffers testing positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

"According to the standing rules of the U.S. Senate, committees may convene regardless of whether or not the Senate is in session," Graham said in a statement. "The Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., will proceed with the consideration of the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to be an associate justice on the Supreme Court of the United States on Oct. 12, 2020."

People act as if McConnell has until the election to ram Barret through. But don't pretend as if he's not above lame duckin' it.
