I can sometimes be shy when I first meet people but I think sometimes it comes off as bitchiness. Plus truth be told I am often cranky. I just had a birthday. I think it's okay for me to reflect on my personality flaws.

It's pretty amazing to me. Romney is so weak and unlikeable. It's just odd. Well, money is powerful I suppose. So are you volunteering for Obama? It is only July, so let's not be too dire yet! Or are you an "expect the worst, hope for the best" type?

The election isn't helping, let's put it that way.

It is but I always have a hard time when the perception is that a decision came out of left field. I'm not saying I agree with it but it's not like there wasn't some basis in precedence for the decision. Now, no one ask me to provide that basis because it's been a while since I read it and I'm, like, busy and stuff. *sniff*

It's not that I feel it came out of left field. There is a logic and consistency to it. Following things through to the ultimate natural conclusion as one sees it.

What bothers me is that, like the 2nd Amendment absolutists (who see the monthly parade of mass-shooting victims as collateral damage for freedom), it's fundamentalism. We've become a caricature of ourselves by suggesting that any parameters on these amendments - ever - is unpatriotic, and a betrayal of the Constitution and the founders and the flag. It's the SAME logic as Christian fundamentalism. Same thing. I thought the genius of the Constitution was that it was a living, flexible document?

It's now going to be very hard to put the anonymous billionaire donors back in the bottle.

Well, I'd call myself a first amendment hardliner. But allowing those with the most money to come very close to buying elections seems... twisted and... not speech, as I understand it.

No, it's just people get grouchier and less sociable the more electronically dependent we get. I'm a chatty, social, friendly person. I'm one of those people who can be in a store, surrounded by bickering kids, and the little old lady in a scooter will ask me to help her get something from a shelf, or read something to her cause she forgot her glasses or asks if I'll send one of my kids to the back of the store to get her a gallon of milk cause she forgot while she was back there. My mom, who is not one of those people, just shakes her head and says it amazes her.

I almost never stop myself from nudging someone and sharing something that makes me giggle. I'd say that it used to discomfit about half the people I did it to, but recently it's more like 3/4. I usually take a hint, and then leave the person alone unless I'm stuck waiting and really bored. People just are getting less social and friendly.

I'm so glad to see I am not the only person who does this! After 21 years together my husband has finally stopped being embarrassed by my ability and willingness to have a conversation with a complete stranger.

Last week I even sent him across a parking lot to help an elderly gentleman load groceries into his car. The man was in line behind us and while talking it came out that he had trouble lifting some of the heavier items into his cart. As he put it...he had his son at home to help him unload but was wishing he had his son with him during the shopping trip as well. So, when i saw him across the way I couldn't help myself.
