“Imagine what our country could accomplish if we started working together as one people, under one God, saluting one American flag.” —Donald J. Trump

I've been very confident tagging Trump a "tool" for the last year and a half, particularly as applied to the demolition of the establishment GOP. With his victory this past Tuesday, the "tool" has obviously also done a historic job of demolishing the establishment Democratic Party, too.

But what if Trump is even more of a "tool" than those two unique feats reveal? What if Trump's revolutionary win is actually the tool to announce the official birth announcement of post-secularism in American society?

POST-SECULAR | POST-SECULARISM

I believe those words and what they entail will be become very, very popular from now on.

In Canada we portray ourselves, often smugly, as being more diverse than the USA.

However, the usa census bueau reports that today 50% of children born in the usa are from ethnic minorities.

Whereas Statistics Canada reports that by 2031, nearly 40% of canadian births will be to minorities.

Once you get outside vancouver toronto and montreal, Canada is very very white.

Great article.
Personally, I don't agree with everything in the article (I found some points to be too R-wing) but he raised some very interesting -and valid- points:

"How could the mainstream media have been so wrong? [about Trump's chances of being elected]
- The old establishment media outlets self-consciously perpetuate a secular vision of life which sees the world in terms of two groups of people: those who support a secular vision of life and who are thereby rational and liberal, and those who resist a secular vision of life and who are therefore by definition irrational and repressive. So the various establishment media and journalistic outlets are largely incapable of understanding and interacting with non-secular conceptions of life.

It is the waning of this secular vision of life that is perhaps the most significant indicator of Mr. Trump’s win. We are now entering into what scholars call a post-secular society age.

We’ve seen this with the advent of Sharia councils in the U.K. [… ], the resurgence of the Russian Orthodox Church as a major force in the Russian Federation, the revival of imperial Shintoism at the highest levels of the Japanese government, a revitalization of Confucian philosophy among Chinese officials, Islam in Turkey, and on and on.
- Here in the U.S., similar processes are evident in the increasing collapse of multiculturalism and political correctness, which together represent the value system of secularization.
(Multiculturalism is the idea that America is made up of a plurality of cultural identities that consumer-defined individuals get to pick for themselves, with no single culture being dominant. And political correctness is simply multiculturalism married to the state, wherein government policies favor some cultural or ethnic groups at the expense of others.)

Moreover, this turn towards nationalist sentiments that we are seeing all over the globe [… ] is largely due to the interrelationship between nationalism and revitalized traditions.
- In the face of threats to localized or national identity by globalized secular processes, populations tend to reassert symbols of cultural identity such as language, custom, tradition, and religion as mechanisms of resistance."

Especially in January!

The Queen watches those Alaska Police shows and the perp is never, ever the black guy.

It's like one of those US commercials for alarm systems...

That reminds me...how long before burglars learn how to recognize and disable the Ring video doorbell?

Step one, take a picture from the vantage point of the camera.

Step two, wait a day.

Of course people who steal will skip this step.

Step three, place the picture in front of the camera, enter, steal, enjoy...
