My sadness over the tragedy has now turned to full blown anger. I'm pissed at the lax security at our airports. I'm pissed at the way our intelligence capability has degraded in the last twenty years. I'm pissed at the way we are always reacting to events instead of preventing them.

This shit never would have happened in Europe or Isreal. Isreal is the biggest terrorist target in the world, yet thay haven't had a hijacking in twenty years. We lazy, soft, fat Americans will put up with Kevlar-suited storm troopers kicking in the dooor of some poor jerk growing dope, yet we just don't have the fucking patience to hire property security at our airports and let them do their job. We can't be bothered to go through full searches conducted by actual security personnel instead of $6.00/hr. rent-a-cops that barely passed their GED tests. We are offended if we have to answer any question more than "has your bag been out of your sight at any time today?".

I'm pissed...and I want the proper people fired, suspended, and last but not least, dead for this.

One of our greatest assets as Americans is our determination. That determination also manifests itself as stubbornness. We didn't believe that we could be attacked on our own soil. We became complacent, sure of our invulnerability.

We're looking at things with wide open eyes now. We'll learn from this and go on, better than before. It's just sad that it took this loss of life to get us to listen to the warnings that were there.

No, Lavy, PC's entirely correct. Our priorities are fried. There is no real excuse for any of this, and we all suspect that after a very visible tightening of security, entropy will bring us back toward where we were. We all know how much metal on us triggers alarms at which airports. In the US, unless there's been a public security event at an airport recently, the machines are set to let anyone through. That's never true when I fly in Germany, to name a place, and yet the Germans are as courteous as can be when they search passengers. They've done it without fail since the very early 70s. When I travel in Europe, I keep rings, earrings, watches, etc. in my carry-on, then I put them on when I sit down aboard the plane, because I know I'll have to remove them to get through the gate, and I lost a great chain that way once in Italy. Here I can wear the whole lot and breeze through, as I did two weeks ago. It's a joke because it saves money. If we want to be safe, air travel's going to cost considerably more. Or is it easier to talk big, and bomb a heap of rubble, like Kabul already is, than it is to improve our security?

It really doesn't hate shit to do with airports or airplanes. Terrorists operate on their own timetable and set their own rules. We could have the most secure airports in the world and they would have found another delivery system.
