Well, they are!

Let me put it this way...Misty, Magica, Cloudy AND Bel told me that i used too many hyphens in my dissertation.

Bel had me remove 99% of them lol

Now, the reason i didn't say 'North Americans' is because my dissertation supervisor is Canadian and she didn't bat an eye at them. :p

neways, i just wanted to announce that Hyphen's are no longer safe when you have Americans about!

:p

We're hyphen-biased. :D

Some people—who shall remain nameless—have an aversion to punctuation that is neither period nor comma—for reasons perhaps known only to them. They do not care for hyphens—and they sneer at semi-colons, too.

Hey, I just treated it like I would any submission... ;)

I have one author I edit for that I swear is afraid to even say and adjective in my presence, let alone write them... I don't feel I'm that tough, but...

And as you can see, I'm not only about periods and comma's, as I am rather fond of ellipses. I will say that you should never use a colon or semi-colon in dialog. But I'm basing that I what I have been taught in the business, not on my schooling.

ETA: Exclamation points lose their forcefulness if used too often. The less you use them, the more important it is when you do use one.

And the more you look like a hysteric. :D

I love hyphens, dashes and semicolons-- I do a lot of punctuationing. I like the slightly quaint feeling of the semicolon.

I see that I've used a dash in the above sentence, where many of my *coffcoff* UK friends would have placed a comma. Does the English comma mean a fuller pause than the American one?

I like semi-colons.

i know, i just like poking fun :D

i love how every so often there'd be a 'stop ending sentences with a preposition!' comment, and then later it'd be 'you KNOW what i'm going to say here!'

:D

looking at an old story i wrote some time ago...and its not my grammar that needs work, its the actualy writting  it's rather depressing.

I like semi-colons.

Well, this is why I didn't name names—I would not want to falsely accuse anyone of being bigoted towards a particular form of punctuation.

I am obsessed with em dashes today.

A spoonful of sugar, lass... *wink*

In a row, definitely.

In a paragraph-- that would be a subjective judgement, and we might have to conference about it first. Various factors would have to be evaluated and stuff.

We could discuss it over a good glass of wine and some lamb kabobs . . .

Or perhaps you are simply obsessed with hyphens.

This point has been raised on many occasions but i beleive it to be false now that there are 4 people who looked at the same piece of work and decided that it comprised too many hyphens...when others that looked at it, did not find such an issue :p.
