The United States incarcerates more people than any other country on Earth.

Not even the communist Chinese or the old Soviet union jails as many people as the US.

More than half of everyone incarcerated in the US is serving time for drug-related offenses. This includes some people who are serving 90-year prison terms for possessing peanut-sized quantities of drugs.

The United States is statistically the worst prison state in the world.

This is about increasing the profits and market share of the prison industrial complex.

1. In closed societies such as the USSR and the PRC it is impossible to know the real numbers.
2. In those same countries, they KILLED dissidents, not just criminals.
3. Therefore, the comparison fails.
4. That said, the US incarceration rate ire mains problematic. However, a large part of the problem is the delay in carrying out sentencing, which eliminates any potential aversion/prevention factor.

The real harm caused to society comes when incarcerated persons return to free society with jail values.

Notice the high percentage of black incarceration.

It is quite clear what the problem for society is. The question is what other steps can we take to solve it?:rose:

Eliminate some drug laws. People should no more be incarcerated for drugs than people are incarcerated for alcohol.
