I posted this on another thread - but think it deserves its own thread...

"America: A Tribute to Heroes," a two-hour, telethonlike special set to air simultaneously on several networks Friday night. It will be broadcast live from New York and Los Angeles on ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, and tape-delayed for the Mountain and Pacific time zones.

Participating will be Mariah Carey, Wyclef Jean, Willie Nelson, Jimmy Smits, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Jim Carrey, Sheryl Crow, Faith Hill, Tom Hanks, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Sheryl Crow, Cameron Diaz, Robert De Niro, Billy Joel, Tom Petty, Will Smith, George Clooney, Amy Brenneman, the Dixie Chicks, Clint Eastwood, Calista Flockhart, Dennis Franz, Kelsey Grammer, Tom Cruise, Conan O'Brien, Ray Romano, Julia Roberts, Paul Simon, Sela Ward and Robin Williams, with more expected to be added.

Production costs will be paid for by the networks, and everyone involved will be donating their time and resources. Methods for contributing money to the relief effort will be announced on the program.

While "America: A Tribute to Heroes" will air on the major networks, all other TV and cable networks are also invited to show the program free of charge. MTV and VH1 are among the stations that have already confirmed their participation.

I imagine that watching this tonight will result in a huge cry-fest for me. Music evokes more emotion in me than practically anything else. I will watch it until my eyes swell shut, or I run out of wine.

Me too... I've gone through shock, tears, numbness and overload of news and grief... but I guess I can handle some more. I think this will be good - it will be good for them to raise more money from those who can give more, or who haven't given yet.

Probably will let my kids watch it too - let them know that there are people out there who can help - I'm not a fan of all these performers, but they are - let them see those people doing some good for a change and I'll even withhold my sarcastic comments about the Back Street Boys.

Well - for those who don't know (its on about every station, isn't it)? The telethon is on now...

Bruce Springsteen opened...

indeed! "are you talkin to me?"

so is Angelina Jolie ... (wiping drool from chin)

and .. Billy Joel just performed New York State of Mind and moved me to tears. It's all recorded digital on the Tivo. a true moment.

kwt

A very touching show.....

What was your favorite part? favorite performance?

I was very touched by Muhammed Ali. I didn't realize he was not well.

In terms of entertainment value, so far, it is far too accoustic for my tired little brain. However, taken individually the performances were great, for the most part.

I wish Ewan was answering phones, I have a question for him. Shit. Oh well, but you know what....

The music has been great so far.

I actually thought Limp Bizkit did a fine job doing Wish You Were Here.

Good show, but as we speak Celine Dione is screwing with "God Bless America."

She didn't even know English when she came here...

I found the ending the most touching. Not that they were all on stage and trying to remember, or read the words, but that they chose Willie to lead them, and then did you see? Ali was trying. Really trying to say the words too. I crid my freaking heart out.
Yes, he is very sick, has been for a long time and only getting worst. In the last theree instances I have seen him he has said and done nothing. Except this time. The effort of him trying to sing with the rest reached me more then anyone else.

By the wya, thank you for telling me that was Limp Bizkit. I thought it was an excellent rendition but was not aware who they were. I suspected that it was them.

As a fighter, I was touched by Ali.

The only one who cried, who else Julia Roberts.

I think it runs in the family.

I think they should have had something saying who the entertainers were. A few, I did not recognize. But I do not get out much.

Johnny Reznik (sp?) from the GooGoo Dolls also sang with them. I thought it was great. :)

My mom & I watched it together. I cried buckets, especially at the stories of the firefighters & others who showed such courage. Was John Reznick of the Goo Goo Dolls playing guitar with Limp Bizkit? I didn't recognize some of the younger artists, but I thought it was very well done. Muhammed Ali has Parkinson's Disease, the same disease that Michael J Fox has. I was very touched by Ali, I didn't realize he was so ill.

I just got done watching this.. great.. great.. great.. that's all i have to say.. i'm speechless.. seeing Ali like that was so sad.. but wonderful to see someone so ill was willing to come out and help..

1 question tho.. who was the black (Jemacian?) gentleman with the dread locks? i don't recognize him..

Wycleaf Jean, formerly of the Fugees, now a solo act. He does some rap, some rasta, some reggae, and also doesn't do too bad on his Bob Marley covers.

Thank you very much.. i appreciate you answering me..

i was working tonight, but at least caught it on the radio...and if you think it was hard figuring out who was who on the television, try it by voice recognition alone...lol

all in all, it was very nice...did i hear stevie wonder?, or just someone who sounded like him?

the stories had me in tears at times...i was too busy to get terribly emotional, but some of those tales were really, really sad

Al Pacino is answering phones. That's all I care about.

LOL... Exactly my thoughts. I saw him on the phones and my first thought was "Omygod I need to call, I need to call..." hehe

Pacino is my wet dream.

It was wonderful to hear Billy Joel sing again. He's a favorite of mine.

Limp Bizkit is sexy

Tom Petty looked different, didn't he? Still an amazing artist.

I missed several artists like Eric Clapton, BB King, where the fuck was Mr. We-are-the-world Michael Jackson?

Got to see it tonight. I guess I missed parts of it. Was reading at the same time. Over all, not bad. But Clint Eastwood looked like he was about to pass out! He looked terrible.

I watched the whole thing with my mom and sister, it was great.

I agree that they should've listed the artists. I knew who they were but my mom had no idea.

I got choked up when they were showing the moment of silence, from other countries.
