The 9 yr old boy in my house is freaking out at me because I won't stop typing here instead of getting up and helping him find one of his game cartridges for his Nintendo _ a game I have never played, and no one else lives here... He says "You just don't care about my game, that's why you won't come help me find it!" and you know, he's right. I don not actually care about the game, it's not mine, and I didn't lose it. He says "You're just being mean!" Am I?

Tell him "Well, when I was your age we didn't have video games. We had to go out side and find something to do. So, go out side and play..... in traffic :) "

What he's saying is, " You're a fucking boring auntie. Get off your arse and play with me."

Your reply should be " I understand you feel I'm a fucking boring auntie, bit I feel I am very interesting and many people on this computer think so too. So On that we differ. I understand that you have a desire that I play with you, but I don't share your desire at the moment, I prefer to play with myself."

I hope this helps Peachy.

No, he definitely did not want me to play with him! When he is playing he does not even want me in the room. He just wanted me to find the fucking game.

But all is well, it was under his bed (duh, exactly where I knew it would be) and he is happily occupied.

Yesterday I was a mean and terrible aunt for making him brush his teeth and put clothes. He threatened to call the police and tell them how I am always telling him what to do. Then later on I was mean when I told him he couldn't have any cookies because he'd just had a bowl of ice cream. Guess I am just a horrible mean auntie.:p

My kid does that. I say, "You lost it, you find it. You're supposed to keep track of your stuff."

My fave:

"If you're bored, do the dishes."

I like this one:

"You want the right to do what want? Pay rent."

OK as your parenting (auntying) counsellor for today, I got it wrong about the game.

You must never ask a kid to do anything unless you are willing to accept the answer "No!".
Also you risk all sorts of problems if you interfere with his own natural eating inclinations. If he becomes a nudist cookie adict with false teeth when he is 13, it may be down to yesterday.

WOW.... you are mean and bitchy...... j.k.

My mom always told me and my sister when we wanted her to either find something or help us find something..

"if I find it, I'm keeping it."

i might mention at this point that the boy has Asperger's Syndrome, which is a form of autism, so he's not entirely like a regular kid. Sort of like a cross between Bart Simson and Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man. Smart, articulate, but in his own universe.

You are SO singing my song.

I say, "I have not seen your <whatever> because I don't play with it. How would I know where it is? You're the only one who even touches it. <rant rant rant til they walk away>"

The dishes comment is a quote - you must be spying on me.

And "as long as I'm paying for your existence, you'll do what I say. As soon as I'm not, you can do whatever you want!"
