Before I start my rant, let me preface this post with the fact the person I am about to rant about is not a member here.
Today at work, I got into a discussion with a guy about rich people..
Both of us were of the opinion that we harbored no ill will to someone who is rich, born into richness, or aspired to be rich. We both aspire to be rich someday.
It somehow transcended into black on white crime being considered as just crime. But in mainstream society, white on black crime was percieved as a hate crime.
We are both white.. A black co-worker who heard nothing of our conversation caught the words "hate crime", and he interjected himself into OUR conversation that he "lives with hate crime everyday". He ridiculously inferred that slavery really wasn't over.
I stated that my ancestors never owned slaves, and how could he make such an assumption? He replied that my ancestors probably couldn't afford them.
I politely informed him that both sets of my Great-Grandparents didn't immigrate to the U.S. until the 1880's-1890's. He said that didn't mean anything, I was still guilty through indirect means..
I was floored!! I simply said in a very calm voice..."You are full of shit, and on top of that, YOU are a racist"... then I calmly walked away...
Okay the rant is done...am I the only one who sees the irony here?
