Am I missing something here?

It's the middle of October right? Not even Halloween.

So why in the hell are my neighbors putting up Christmas Lights already?

It's not just one or two. I can now look down the road and see about a dozen places with lights up and burning. Has Christmas been moved up a month and I somehow missed the Memo? Is there another Holdiay coming up I didn't know about?

I mean isn't it bad enough the stores are already stocking Christmas stuff and playing the god aweful Carols?

This is rotten. The only thing I can think of putting them up in good weather but turning them is stupid. http://www.addis-welt.de/smilie/smilie/blume/sunflower_singlesf.gif

Every year I say that there needs to be some Thanksgiving decorations and music.

Tell me about it! I went into a store the other day and they're already selling ornaments and stuff.

Maybe we should just skip both Halloween and Thanksgiving. A person can barely put up the jack-o-lantern and hand out candy before the Xmas trees and lights are up.

People around here keep them up all year. Gotta love the south.

Skip Halloween??? Bite your tongue! *shocked and outraged* I refuse to recognize Christmas until after Black Friday. We start having things all the time and they just won't be special anymore. Have to be careful about that. *shaking my head* Except for sex, that remains special no matter what.

Are you sure they're Christmas lights? Around here a lot of people decorate their houses with orange lights for Halloween.

I haven't even gotten my Halloween decorations up yet!

Wait...

Scratch that- if the kids are outside, that's decoration enough.

Little demons. -.-

(Today, they attempted to set my truck tires on fire. What the hell? I mean- I can barely work that damn childproffed grill lighter, and the three year old has no issues with it? And how the hell did they get through the padlock on the shed? Gah! I'm going to bed. [/random child-inspired rant])

I can't believe you posted this! It is happening in my neighborhood as well and I am SURE these are not Halloween or Thanksgiving lights...but they don't all look REAL Christmas like either. Some do! Very very odd.

My fuckin neighbor, man

The people across the street are seasonal-lights nuts. They put up a ji-normous display for Halloween, and then it gradually morphs into a completely gonzo Christmas horror. He's got a lawn the size of a carpet. Two swatches of grass 2 metres by 4. Doesn't signify, though. It's mind-boggling how many huge plastic figures, inflatable figures, light-armature figures, luminaries, and godnose wot he can fit into them, plus the shit crawls up the front walls and down the side of the driveway, where there's a half-metre strip of grass between drive and wall.

Every day, there's more tiniff on the guy's fuckin yard.

My daughter, and many of her closest friends, dug Halloween more than any other holiday, so I still have a soft spot for it. I appear at the door in some kind of outfit, different each year, and play Saint-Saëns on the box, interspersed with Iron Butterfly and other stuff as the mood strikes. I miss Halloween when it's gone.

The drug dealers are already hanging the icicle lights, and will be all Christmased out in three weeks, leaving them there until Boxing Day.

I worked in retail ten years ago. We put the christmas stuff out on the shelves just after Halloween, I think. So it's not like they have really stepped it up that much (although I think it's still too much).

Christmas is not supposed to start before Halloween. Period. No Debate.

I'm still torn on if it should even start before Thanksgiving. I feel like Turkey day deserves most of November to itself.

A couple neighborhoods away was a house with a large-sized lot across from the lake that use to put up obnoxious displays for every 'holiday' from Halloween to Easter. Last spring, builders bought the lot and tore down the house. This Halloween stands "affordable townhouses in the low 600s". I think this new eyesore is much worse than the overly decorated family home.

(Shoves the icicle lights back in their boxes) ;)

Here in the UK all the Christmas stuff is already on the shelves alongside the Halloween costumes and masks. They are probably there on a buy-one-get-one-free offer. Thank fuck we don't do Thanksgiving too.... I couldn't cope with that as well!

Yesterday I saw a lighted Father Christmas and Christmas tree on a house. That is the first this year although a bungalow near here still has Father Christmas stuck on the chimney from last year. Apparently the owner's grandson put it there and every time he has come back to visit it has been raining...

I vote Og for AH Father Christmas!

Oh! Oh!

Og, will you dress up as Father Chrismas for the AH? Then we could all take turns sitting on your lap and telling you what good boys and girls we've been and what we'd really like for the holidays.....
:D

Hey, I'm only half-joking here!

*confesses* Uh, I still have a string of icicle lights strung across my porch from last year, or maybe two years ago. But I don't turn them on until mid-December, I promise. I think most of the bulbs have now burnt out or were damaged by wind and rain because they're in pretty bad shape. ...and I do live in Southern Illinois, Cloudy!

Hey, I'm only half-joking here!

You can read my Christmas stories. This one?

I'm booked every year for the local play groups. The children like pulling at a real white beard.

There's just something very wrong when you are sick of Christmas and it's not even November yet. Maybe to compensate, we should start celebrating Halloween right after summer vacation.

Excellent! We'll expect you to appear in Father Christmas AV starting December 1st for Og's Father Christmas thread--where-in we can all make holiday requests. Are you game? ;)
