Alter-egos

thats ok, your also welcome to comment on other 'alter egos' if you have tem online or r/l:)

Oh ok.

Well, I'll tell the other alter egos I played on that messageboard.

There is one where I play as Santa Claus and I only appear on Christmas Eve and I give "presents" to those who "sit on my lap". It's a cute little game.

The other is a classic incest troll - only one post attributed to it. Though it resulted in one hilarious thread after that post. Twas very fun.

Is an alter ego like an alter-cation?

Because some of my personalities don't really get along with some of the other ones.

Well, I'm only 'Marsipanne' here on these boards. Everything I've said about myself are true, which means that if anybody who really knew me came here and read my posts they'd guess who I am pretty easily.

I've never had a real 'alter-ego' even when I was MSN-crazy. The one time I had cyber sex I was with a friend and I wanted to use my own description but she wanted to use a made-up one (that was certainly NOT my description). I guess that's the one time I've used an alter-ego.

One of my friends has an alter-ego (although I think she's dropped it now). She was called X and had brown hair, green eyes, was 17, came from Wales or something etc. etc. I used to use fake names but the name everybody calls me by is not on my birth certificate anyway, so it doesn't matter. But, I'd still rather be 'Marsipanne' here.

Does having multiple email addresses count? I've got 7 that I check reasonably regularly. When I was an Internet nut I gathered a huge amount of net-friends and I filled my inboxes one by one, and I'm the kind of person who hates deleting emails.. so I just set up a new account. At one time I was receiving 50+ emails a day. And I replied to them all.

No other ego. Guess mine is not big enough to split.
Hehehe

I have been thinking about it, so I could bitch more but the trouble of keeping them apart is too much for the little bitching I want to do.

:D

The story of Jeanne...

I created the alter-ego of Jeanne_d_artois to explore writing from a feminine viewpoint (not as a woman but as if I were writing from the woman's point of view).

Most of my regular readers 'knew' what to expect from Og. I wanted to see what the reaction would be to someone who 'wasn't' Og.

The results surprised me. I had more reads as Jeanne. I had more 'suggestive' feedback as an apparent woman and some of it was unwelcome. As Og I don't usually get sexual advances in my feedback. As Jeanne I had too much of it most totally unrelated to the story.

My mistake was using Jeanne's identity on the AH. If I had kept Jeanne as an author without participating on the AH I could have continued indefinitely whenever I wanted to write something different. Being two people on the AH had practical difficulties including remembering which 'who' I was when posting. I had to edit in a hurry several times when 'Jeanne' had signed herself 'Og' and vice versa. A couple of people spotted that or the similarity of posts. I decided that April 1st was a good day to come clean.

Jeanne was never meant to deceive, just to provide a different voice when I wanted to write. Since April 1st Jeanne has been an 'in' joke on the AH. I might submit more stories as 'Jeanne'. Eventually I will finish 'her' current opus Pantomime Dwarf which has changed emphasis as it progressed. The current unpublished version is more recognisably 'Og'.

Jeanne taught me a lot, some of which I already knew. Og is a construct just like Jeanne. HenryVIII is another but people can meet me as Henry in real life. None of them is the real 'me', but even as me I have many roles, as do most of us - I'm a husband, a father, a public nuisance, a politician with a small 'p' - (I engage in politics to help the community of my town but I do not support a political party, I'm independent and happily discuss things with elected politicians of all parties.), I'm a secondhand bookshop owner, I'm Secretary of this, Chairman of that, Vice-President (an appropriate position for a Literotican) of the other and so on.

I enjoy role playing, whether in real life or as an author. Sometimes the roles overlap which can lead to confusion. As a public figure I get to be interviewed by my daughter in her role as Chief Reporter on the local paper. She knows, and I know, which roles we are playing. It sometimes confuses her readers who wonder why any stories with me mentioned don't show her name on the by-line when she obviously wrote it. Of course as her father I tell her about any news stories I might be able to tell her; she rings me for 'comments' in my official capacities; but she and her editor use their professional judgement about what to print and 'Dad says so' is not a valid criterion, nor should it be.

Two personas as a writer I think is valid. Two or more personas on the AH didn't work for me but you still might hear from 'Jeanne' from time to time. Just remember who 'she' is.

Og and Jeanne_d_artois.

I'll never forget who Jeanne is. ;)

I just wish I could forget who Shock Chick is.

I'm not going to tell exactly why I created her, but most of you know how she ended up: as an April Fool's bit of silliness.

I never intend to submit a story as her. I don't want to dip into that psyche again - way too distressing.

Yep. But don't worry unless you start arguing with yourself.

The worrying point isn't when you're arguing with yourself. It's when you lose the argument that you have to worry.

I have no sock puppets here. I have three on the only other forum I hang out at; a demon, a luchadoré and a CEO of a transnational corporation, Global Resources And Future Technologies or GRAFT.

It's a political board and I use my sock puppets to make particular points in a very particular voice.

She didn't let me; I had to sneak out ;)

She told me to use that. ;)

Good for you! I must try that one day, while she's not looking.

Well, shit. I lose arguments with myself all the damned time.

I usually win arguments with Og.

I've got more patience. It's all his fault anyway. It always is.

But she sure is fun, I'm surprised she didn't go on the snert patrol.,Then again she didn't have to with Fluffy Lou:rose:

Perdita,

Me, myself, and I all like your "smoking" AV. Those other two wierdos haven't been polled, but that AV is probably a new consensus favorite. Brings back memories of the old blues line, "I just gave up cigarettes, baby, not smoking."
