There was a particular story about a man who was fired by his wife from his sales job. He took it very hard, but ended up becoming a buyer for another company that bought from the original company.
The wife eventually finds out that she was duped by the sales manager to fire her husband AND that the husband's sales were only low because product was in a transition state, with newer items coming soon. Rather than sell inferior items, he opted to offer better stuff to his buyers in the future. Only to be fired for doing the right thing.
The husband moves out and buys a house, restores it, ends up caring for two girls (grandad neighbor is a drunk), and the wife eventually joins them.
The story was written before tags were a thing.
