A diagnoses, which if true, certainly fits in with his inability to socialize. And because "High Functioning" is a relative term, perhaps he wasn't as "High Functioning" as assumed by his parents.

He was certainly not helped by his parents. Being a hormonally driven young social cripple would certainly play havoc with his psyche. So rather than receiving counseling to help him interact with others, he was left to his own devices to find 'reasons' why others didn't want to interact with him. Which always results in the 'others' being to blame. So I don't discount that he may have indeed have had some of the publications listed in his possession. Those types of publications would give focus to his frustration. But that's all they did, they weren't the cause, merely the reinforcement he seemed to so desperately want.
