Well after 5 months of being in an exclusive relationship, He finished his work assignment here and was heading back to home to his wife and family....sigh....We knew this day would come but you never focus on it. It was a wonderful experience, we lived well on his expense account, and he did keep me warm through some pretty cold stretches of winter. We're packing up his stuff today, and having one last big night before he flies out tomorrow.

ONLY LOVE CAN BREAK A HEART: Indeed five months of an exclusive relationship can break ones heart. I can imagine him leaving and yet so many things that needed to be said. So many kisses still on ones lips. Bernard was married and we dated intermittingly for over four years. Your words above have me remembering New York.

Washington Square will always be a magical place to me. I was sitting on a bench near the arch, watching him stride confidently across the square. Another one of our times together for several weeks in heaven. New York City was our energy source: We strolled around the streets and alleys of the Village and, no matter how depleted our emotional reserves, the city recharged us, pouring its life through our veins and arteries. Bernard and I came together again as if we hadn't been apart for years; again I was able to transcend conventional concepts of time. He hadn't changed in the least. When I saw him walking towards me, his glasses throwing off shards of sunlight, I was back again on the park bench at Wellesley; I was back again in the cottage near the Hemingway house in Key West; I was back.

At first we didn't talk. We walked arm in arm from the park towards Downing Street. It was easier to rekindle our relationship from the touch of arms together and the synchronized click of our heels on the sidewalks. In step and in tune. We left our bodies behind and allowed the city itself to take control of our minds. We became one with the streets and the shops, with the crowds, the pavement, the traffic. But yet a fleeting thought remained deep in our hearts and that was when we would say goodbye again and what we had done so many times before.
