All UK citizens' health details will be put on a government and corporate database and it is automatic *unless* we say otherwise...

Actually, assuming that they can manage the implementation project properly and actually get the necessary systems up and running at a reasonable cost, I can only back the idea.

Is there a vote pro site?

Wait - you actually want the government and corporate bodies to have access to your private medical details? Because this isn't about a database for the medical profession, this is so people can target advertising more effectively as far as I can see. And we're automatically added to it *unless* we register our disagreement.
I see it as a gross violation of my privacy and going against the Hippocratic Oath.

I dont agree that any of the information should be accessible by anyone outside of the NHS with permission of the patients. I can see benefits and cons to the system so not sure about the whole thing. Especially when they don't have a very good trck record with this sort of thing.

Right now I would just prefer the bloody people to get my records right to begin with as I found something this morning on my records that has pissed me off to no end. Now just have to figure out how to go about getting it corrected.

Not a citizen, but a Rhodesian expat here...this is a tad Orwellian, from the sound of it. Shudders at certain....memories. Glad in a sense that I moved out of the UK, but the USA is not doing any better about draconian, police-state measures.

Didn't realise that bit, thought it was for internals use only.
I thought it was illegal, data protection act and suchlike.

Well you'd think, wouldn't you?
Hence why we all need to protest it before it becomes standard - otherwise 1984 here we come...

Right, perhaps I need to write a letter to my MP. How do I find out their email address?

OK, I did my bit. Main part of the letter here:

Terribly sorry to bother you, as I am sure you are busy ensuring that the country is run properly.

Anyway, its just someone was saying that I need to go on a website poll register think to petition about some crazy mad idea that accordingly is going to come in. Now I'm wary that the people running the poll may be idiots, and I really don't have time to do the research. That's where you come in, I reckon I elected you to do that kind of stuff.

Right what was said was that the NHS are going to be introducing a scheme where this happens:

1) Everyones medical details are to be put on one big computer system accessible by NHS staff
2) The system, by default, will give the details to independant corporate organisations

Now I would have thought point 1 an excellent and overdue (by about 15 years) idea. I don't get this sort of nonsense from my bank now do I, and that's only money.
I also would have thought point 2 would be illegal under data protection etc.

I can only see point 2 being valid if the corporate organisations are directly contracted by the NHS for medical care work.

Now I'm hoping I got the information wrong. I assume that you will be stopping this nonsense if I did not get it wrong.

Many thanks for ensuring the country is run properly.
