All-time threads and the chatroom

Not meaning to stir shit up but why do people insist on using the threads when we have a chat room? I know accumulating posts is important to some (?) and hey, I wouldn't want to stop anyone from doing so, but jeez, why do people enjoy one over the other? Is it the fear of intimacy / too much like RL thing? This isn't a condemnation, but reading some of those All-time threads makes me think some people are very lonely and sad.

I'm just not a real big fan of chat rooms. I pop in, post a few lines and pop out. Done the chat room thing before, but it's always full of idiots asking if I wanna cyber. This way, I can get the interaction I want without having to tell people no all the time.

I like the vast majority of folks that post on those threads. It's a question that's been quietly voiced before. I just wanted to open it up to the board. I'm sure they needed your defense.

I spent close to two years chatting in the chat room, had lots of fun and made lots of friends. Then things weren't fun there anymore. I moved over here and made a lot more friends and some of my old ones moved here too.

As long as we stay in our own thread and don't go all over the boards driving people insane what does it bother you?

It doesn't. Did I say it did? Just seemed kind of lonely to watch people post over and again to no one about nothing and no one responding. I was just wondering about motivation, that's all.

As the originator of a thread that now has almost 10,000 posts I have to tell you that I never thought it would last this long but it has become a place for friends old and new to chat and leave messages and catch up with each other -- and there is nothing wrong with that -- a lot of us on that thread are refugees from the chat room who left because it just wasn't a fun place to be anymore -- too much pettiness and backbiting and politics. We are having fun staying in touch here and I for one am not lonely or desperate and know exactly who I am talking to when I am here.
