All things British

This Sunday a whole new season of Midsomer Murders begins.

I can't wait and plan to be back in town and home by Sunday morning!!!

I have seen all of the ones that Netflix carries. Some I had already seen on public TV. I love them. I watch a lot of stuff from bed before going off to mimi land.

Eb [wanting to hit the bed, but have to amuse the sub-spawn. The spawn is at class.]

Cyril Ritchard, one of the grand old men of the british theatre. Had great legs in those tights when he played Captain Hook. I was watching a video of the Mary Martin Peter Pan and my favorite line is when he wants the crew to "fetch me out that doodle doo!"

I have been using is in place for my fave traffic curse word all day.

Well we up to 3 episodes of Torchwood , the adult themed spin off of Dr. Who, and so far it looks promising. LOL, Cpt. Jack's kisses can make a girl swoon and faint!! :D

I wish I could get that program here. You've mentioned it before and it sounds really good.

The Young Ones

We also just finished watching three DVDs of this. I love anything with Rik Mayall in it, and Ade Edmundson is in it (husband of Ab/Fab's jennifer Saunders. They die in horrible imaginable ways at the end of each DVD, but come back in the next.

Sound familiar? It was done in Blackadder too.

Talking to a friend online from the US today I volunteered the information that it is very cold here this morning and I was about to treat the little emperor to 'bubble&squeak' for brekkie.

Wonders if Miss Rose knows what that is

BTW it was yum :D

LOL, Adrian did another show in the UK, Comic Relief Does Fame Academy. His singing performances were something else (in an excellent way for my tastes). Think out of them all, my favourites of his were his rendition of Tainted Love and Born To Be Wild. Definately weren't boring...wonder if the clips are in cyberspace somewhere?

There is no cooler English detective than Lord Peter Whimsey. I'm rather in love with him.

Miss Rose it's called bubble & squeak because that's sort of the sound it makes when its cooking.

Generally it's left over cooked vegetables from the night before which you add to then recook in a fry pan for breakfast. I added leg ham , fresh herbs and finally eggs to the leftovers ( potato, carrots, mushrooms, baby aubergines ). Many recipes online as I have recently checked include cabbage. My mothers version was the basics to provide a hearty warm breakfast . I only cook it myself once in a blue moon. We have had a cold snap here and the little emperor and I woke up ravenous which is most unusual for me at least.

Online Recipe

That one above Miss Rose is fairly similar in technique to mine.

I don't know him... what show is he on? Wonder if it's one I can get here?

<tosses hair>

Lord Peter Whimsey wouldn't lower himself to doing television. Urgh, no no no. Dorothy L Sayers is the author. You can get the books on Amazon though. He is adorable, witty, and just so deliciously English. He reminds me so much of my man!

Heya Bron

Just for you...............

Blackadder: Baldrick, have you no idea what irony is?

Baldrick: Yes, it's like goldy and bronzy only it's made out of iron.

:D

The recipe my family uses (the enormous, North London type) uses mashed potatoes, cabbage, carrots and whatever other leftover veg we have, made in to cakes and fried up in a pan. Served with leftover Yorkshire pud and gravy in front of the fire with midsommer murders and a vat of tea. Perfect.
Aitches optional.

The one good thing about being home on Saturday night is the BritComs on GPTV. Love, love the Vicar of Dibley. :D

Okay, will have to try and find one of her books. Thanks.

Wishes

Everyone is supposed to make a wish as they stir the pudding, its supposed to bring good luck. We still do that, well the kids wish & at the same time take sly licks of the pudding mix! We'll be making our Xmas pud next week!

Yes and in that episode of Poirot, everyone had a turn stirring the pudding. And everyone found some kind of "treasure" in their pudding. It's a neat tradition.
