All the single ladies!

Explains all the unhappy women here, sneaking around on their partners.

I love it.

No woman is happy being barren and alone. Society cares very little for the selfish.

It is embarrassing...she sets them up...and they fall for it each time.

Happiness is overrated. Apparently maternal instincts as observed almost without exception across the animal kingdom was invented by men. :)

women tell themselves a lot of things to convince themselves that they are happy with the status quo.

of course... so do men.

I've never had that talent. Staying because you're already there just ain't my bag.

“Married people are happier than other population subgroups, but only when their spouse is in the room when they’re asked how happy they are. When the spouse is not present: fucking miserable,” he said.

^That part makes me lol because I have a girlfriend with a type - older, married men - and dudes always, always have the same super sad story about their cold, miserable, awful wives.

As for myself, I must be an outlier. Never married, no kids, and totally fucking miserable.

Figures.

Don't buy this worthless research. I deal with geriatrics on a daily basis and I can tell as a general rule those who are alone from either divorce or being childless are clearly the most miserable.

I need to show this to all the relatives who keep trying to guilt me and my sister into joining the married women's coven. All the same, I wish my sister could at least have a ceremony cuz I wanna be a fucking bridesmaid

Is your sister gay, too? Your family doesn't know? :)

I don’t find this hard to believe at all, but then, my own experience was that I didn’t want kids, but I never wanted anything more than I wanted mutual, lasting love.

On a more serious note:

It gets lonely at times, because my entire family is overseas.
But then after the age of 40 you're focused on catching up with the things that you haven't finalized, or that you were supposed to or wanted to do but got sidetracked. It's hard to find someone who shares your exact goals, which means compromise compromise and giving up on Your ideals.

It's not just age or the butt ugly factor that get in the way, as some here think.

I used to deal with them on a daily basis. I saw children neglecting parents, irritated by their infirmity. And I saw childless people who had friends, neighbours, even gardeners who made daily efforts to improve life.
But what always struck me most was that the men would retire, they might potter around the garden or she'd, but they retired. The women rarely did. They continued to be expected to cook and clean and care and cope. I've seen several pushed into their graves by lazyarse husbands.
I also saw that when a wife got ms or had a stroke, ended up bed bound and drooling, husbands usually vanished. And if they stayed they were often neglectful and resentful. When husband's were frail, wives almost always provided the majority of the care.

Working with the elderly made me very cynical of relationships.

Never looking the right way?

What does their question even have to do with marriage? Nothing.

The statement was from someone who changed their sex. Dont worry about your sexual orientation, and relationship status. Do consider how somehow Vegas will give us a flower again.
