I found this book by Cormac McCarthy on the shelves over at Saint Pia Zadora Thrift Shoppe. It won some awards but the reviews didnt impress me much, still I bought the book and added it to my stack of books to read.
In a nutshell: Three teens ride their horses to Mexico for an adventure. Yawn.
If you read NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN or BLOOD MERIDIAN, this one is the same stuff. Great story, excellent composition and prose, and constant tension. On a deeper level its a fugue with the basic ways people complicate their lives via personal demons, friends, girls, immaturity, and ignorance. The boys find lotsa trouble, and none of them escapes serious damage.
McCarthy, of course, never uses quotation marks.
