Ok, so Ive been a member of lit since 2001. I've been posting for about 5-6 months now. There are some threads that I will respond to and some I won't. There are some users I feel a little 'intimidated by' as well. I can't quite explain why I feel this way. Maybe it's because I feel new and don't know a whole lotta people on here quite yet.

Any other newbs feel this way?

Of course, this doesn't stop me from posting, apparently!

It didn't stop you, but for every 1 person that comes forward like you did, there are 500 lurkers that will not register and 250 newbs that will just go to another board.


The disease...
Every forum has them.
They are the postwhores.

Attaching themselves to a board, they are a lonely virus.
They claim SENIORITY by how long they've been a member.

They are a very insecure and unwelcoming bacteria as they tend to hide behind their postcounts when new members have shown to "outwitted them". This disobediance is intoloratable to the postwhore.

Some actually grow up, get jobs and have real lives, while others... They need a kick out the fucking door because quite frankly, once a community is infected with postwhores, there's only 2 kinds of people that would post to such a board: Those who seek their acceptance...

...And me.

Yeah, but it kind of blows your theory about newbies running away or not registering tho. Especially since quite a few shrug off some of our more venerable posters flak and do what they want to, yet they're not you, unless you are the alt of someone with a whole shitload of alts or something.

There are some decent old 'un here too. Frankly, though, I agree with BBWetKitty. There is no one that I am particularly intimidated by . . . it's just that it seems like a whole lot of bother to post on and assholes thread. If this isn't fun why bother? That's why I really only come here when I'm bored.

Either way, I have done my homework, read some old posts and quite frankly, you're right. It's shit compaered to then- GB is like every other off-topic board. Actually, it doesn't even compare.

Day after people postwhore the same news that's plastered in BOLD letters when I go to check my Yahoo!/HOTMAIL... No one cares that "so and so" died. Everyone dies.... Now the postwhores can die.

I promised not to talk in chatspeak on here anymore. I did that to help the people here who have helped me a lot. Dont you like them? You make attacks on them a lot, its a just a group, they want to be nice to you if you let them.

Actually that wasn't what she said. She said that while she's been a member since 2001 but only started posting 5-6 months. It's been since she started actively posting that she's felt intimidated. She never explained why she didn't post when she signed up, you don't know, I don't know.

A great many people sign up as members here long before they ever actually discover the forums, some sign up when they find the stories. Some sign up so that they can participate by submitting stories.


Something that I've noticed, over the past few months, is that a great majority of those being unfriendly to "newbs" are "newbs' themselves. - I'm talking about people that have been posting 6 months or so. Sure older posters give newbs shit at times, just don't go under the assumption that they're the only ones.
