Ah been tawkin lahk a Kentucky hillbilly fo two days naw at the workplace.
Spect I'll be gutshot by quittin' time tommorry. :(

Saw this all 3 nights. As horrid as it may sound, too bad they couldn't have stretched the series out a bit longer instead of just 3 nights.

Damned hillbillies and their fighting put the lady boner in my pantaloons. Johnse with his shirt off? Yes, please.

Criminy....Johnse... hoo yeah! I was so glad that he went on to live after all that. Good for him.

Covers Sweet's mouth with my hand and whispers "shhh, we don't want anyone else to wake up." and starts pushing her long nightgown up.

Yes, I was hooked for all 3 nights too. I knew Nancy was using him, but lets admit one thing- he got to bang her AND her hot cousin.

I was a bit let down in Jim Vance's death. Yes, I'm aware he was shot several times but I expected and wanted more. They should've gutted him.

Oh and Perry Kline should have been publicly flogged or stoned for being such a meddling bitch.

She was wearing a nightgown? Looked like he went straight down from her lips onto skin...and further. Very sexy scene.

It's unfortunate that Johnse and Roseleea could never be together.

Sad indeed although I wonder whether they truly would've made it work. I'm aware the movie prolly was not 100% accurate but in the talk he had with Devil Anse, Johnse said in the end all he wanted was just to play. The end credits stated Johnse went on to marry 4 more times after Nancy.

So, waz this falutin' tarnation of a show worth watchin'?

I gess it twas. (spits in the patoon)

It was too bad for them, but think of the time period. Many young people never got the chance with the ones they wanted due to parental control.

And yes, she had a nightgown on, but it was lower cut than you would expect for the 1870-1880's.

Yeah, he came across as a womanizer for sure. However, it seems to be played down by the genuine, honest nature of his character.

I think the "Johnse" character was the one intended for all to root for and want to see survive.

This production was well thought out in many ways I think.

However, this story moved so fast. Get up to potty at any given point and you've missed a major event it seems.

Totally worth watching, Johnny!

I've known about the "Hatfields and McCoy's" ever since I was a tyke. I always thought the conflict was about two dumb hillbilly families.

I had no idea how widespread this conflict went. Many other's (outsiders) were killed as well.

I also had no idea how political it became. I never knew it was a national incident so serious that it almost caused the states of Kentucky and Virginia to go to war. wow.

I understand that this all came up at the end of the Civil War. Most of these men had seen horrific death, destruction and pain. Many, I'm sure, were post traumatic. It was all about honor and loyalty..."anybody who ran would be shot" kind of mentality.

"Honor and loyalty" are noble qualities, however they soon turned to hatred, loathing and revenge. They got stuck in this mode. sad.

Not sure if we will wind up owning it or not, but definitely worth the time to watch on History. Like most, I had heard about it all my like, but never looked deeper until after watching. Both families felt they were in the right, and both lost a lot.

I think Devil Anse Hatfield and Randall McCoy had every right to settle their differences whatever they may be and in whatever mode they wished to settle it in.

However, allowing their own children to enter into the conflict and watch them die one after another, in unbelievable acts of violence were unforgivable.

It's incredible that it went on for so long.

What a story. Only in America.

I wish I still had the History Channel. I have been told by several, one of them a HS teacher, that it is well worth the watch.

There are still many back roads in this state I would not want to drive (day or night) and front porches on which I would not set foot and front doors on which I would not dare knock without having a prior invitation.

I am probably being paranoid, but Google map a satellite view of south eastern Kentucky, just for grins, and look closely.

You'll find a few folks who have obviously gone to some trouble to be left alone. I am personally committed to accommodating their wishes.

Your right. I don't recommend people act too curious if, for unfathomable reasons, driving in Pikeville, KY. The same can be said from Roanoke to Grundy, Virginia. I've spent a little time there. Whether it is weed, meth labs or just plain nasty folks, one best avoid.

Usually Costner movies are more compelling.

So far, this just ain't doing it for me, but the wife seemed to enjoy it.

*chuckle*

That also describes parts of the Bootheel...

My neighbor, RIP, still used us'ns and we'uns and you'uns.

.

Excellent point. Military tactics on both sides hadn't adjusted to advances in technology. It was wholesale slaughter.

The Crimean War presaged the changing nature of conflict, but in the backwaters of the Americas, that lesson had yet to sink in.

;) ;)

Hell, it took even longer in Poland! :D Calvary V tank!

Kentucky and West VA, not VA.

Very good series and I'd like to see more too. Liked Evil's wife...she was smart, tough and damn purty.

Wasn't Grundy, VA moonshine/Nascar territory?

You should check out
The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia territory

Agreed.

All I really knew of the feud was from an old tv series when I was a kid called
"the real McCoys." We watched the miniseries on the History channel and both patient1 and I enjoyed it. There were a lot of people killed who didn't need to be though. To me, it seemed like killing each other was just accepted. I hope we never get back to that state again.
