Lol, after some of the food I'm living on in college right now, that actually is a step up so, I'd eat it.

i hear you on that one... college food = evil.... im not masochist enough to try half the things they serve

For the ignorant Aussie here, please, what is Chicken Fried Steak? And while I'm asking, what are grits?

We hear about these things on TV of course, but it never specifically describes what they are, only that they appear to be southern favourites.

Thanks.

Gawd... am I the only bacon eating person here honest enough to say I'd actually try it? Yeah, I know it would be awful for me, but still, that has to be awesome!

Maybe it's because I have an "adventureous palate" but I'll try almost anything once. *LOL* I didn't spend two million years clawing my way to the top of the food chain to just eat what food eats...

lol EG...I love bacon but I like it all on it's own and don't want it deep fried and battered to death.

Grits are corn that has had the hull and germ removed, is dried and then coarsely ground. Grits are added to boiling water and simmered until they have a thick cereal-like texture. Add salt, pepper, and butter and they are so good. A variation is to stir in some sharp cheddar cheese. Cheese grits are often served with fried fish.

Chicken fried steak is a piece of steak (usually a tougher cut that has been tenderized or cubed), breaded, and then fried. It is usually served with a thick milk based gravy. I'm not fond of gravy so I usually have mine nekkid.
When I make chicken fried steak (which isn't often) I season the meat with salt, pepper and garlic powder, dip in flour, then a beaten egg/milk mixture, then in flour again. I always cook it in a cast iron skillet, the only way to fry it IMHO.

Hope that helps!

ETA: Here is a link to a popular recipe

Thank you. Neither of those things have made it over here, which is odd because almost everything else does.

We just have ordinary crumbed steak, similar I suppose, but nothing like grits that I know of.

I appreciate your time & trouble.

Chicken fried steak is a 'tenderized' piece of beef, covered with flour and pepper, then deep fried in oil. It is then covered with 'country gravy' and served with mashed potatoes and grits (if you're in Dixie)
Grits is boiled corn based cereal, it's great with butter

I think I need a bypass just from watching that video. It probably tastes good, but I like bacon just fine the way it is. I dont' like chicken fried steak, or grits; then again Draggie doesn't like oatmeal or mayonaise so it must be a regional thing.

Okay, this has got to be the ultimate pinnacle of American gluttony. The only thing that could make this worse is if you could deep fat fry a giant lump of buttery sugar.

Please take note of the apparent state of health of everyone in this video! This video could be the poster child for following a vegetarian diet.

I am officially appalled.

That is so gross! I always thought the idea of fried cheese was bad enough... A fried lump of buttery sugar though, mmmmm! j/k

Chicken fried bacon?….

.....maybe us Aussies are not only ignorant, but blind – I couldn’t see any bacon meat, just a strip of Chicken Fried Fat…..!

I think hold the Chicken Fried Bacon….i’ll just take one of those Police Officers …with the cream gravy…*grin*…..mmm

I like Hellmans, though since the whole "must remove trans fat" thing it now separates into white globs with yellow fluid which is kinda scarey
