Drying salmon in an area known for a lot of bears. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.
The whole state is known for a lot of bears...what else would you do
In this area, the hunting bag limit for black bears is 3 per year (no closed season). And brown/griz bears are 1 per year with no harvest ticket required (no closed season).
I'd hang the fish away from the campsite and perhaps a bit higher. But I wouldn't prep the fish like these folk did for smoking.

Maybe they are bear hunting![]()
Honestly?
I doubt it. No one shoots a bear for the hide this time of year.
My bet is they just keep a sloppy campsite.

Plus, they drove up in their school bus.

Looks like many of our salmon rivers here. In the fall though! Picture of last spring? Or what is catch? Water marks, winter melt or tidal?
Question. I would think that those sides would make a nice bug nursery without any smoke?
King (Chinook) salmon in spring! Can't be spawning. Why in the rivers?
Hey Thor, I need some particulars on a pic you posts a loooong time ago.
It's one of those "watercolor sunset" pics. The one with the fishing boat in the foreground and a yellow band low on the horizon below magenta sky.
Was that image enhanced or filtered? I showed a quick screen grab to a friend and he says no way it's real.
If you have any others I'd like permission to have one or two of them printed.
So I don't have to search and be wrong, please find the photo and send me the image on PM or link to the page that it's on.
