Never count out a hillgal, Sir. We are apt to be surprises in the making.
is it really warm enough for shorts on a snowy mountain?

If you work up some body heat with a good climb. Stay in the sun and out of the wind. Water freezes at higher temp under lower pressure if mountain high enough. Get acclimatized to it.
I've stripped to underwear in -20C after X-country skiing and not felt the chill. Just long enough to put dry clothes on though. X-country ski in a couple of light layers at that temp. Dress in survival suit to just stand around fishing.
Northern lights on my bucket list. Mouth of the Mackenzie river would be good vantage point.
I have seen -20 only a time or 2, I applaud your toughness. How long does it take to acclimate?

I read Verne's The Fur Country. I want to see Cape Bathurst.
That looks like a place full of stories, and that stories could be written of.
Another fine photo, sir.
Up wind, I hope.
Smoking cliffs?
