I'm sure even the most mindful bush whackers get taken out by mother nature in AK but I imagine complacency takes a few more, stay frosty out there.

Trapped? Never.
It knocked my toothbrush over. Popped the shower door open. A glass art vase was knocked over, but didn't break. Importantly, my cellar of wine and beer was not affected. I will check everything out once I have breakfast.

Yeah, I was in the Whittier quake (5.9) and the Los Gatos quake (6.9) in California and a lot of others in between.
They are terrifying but the California culture is mostly to ignore them. After Los Gatos we went into the pool for the aftershocks...
But it all eventually caught up to me and I probably will never travel to California again, much less live there. Seeing an infant daughter in front of a plate glass window...
Being a mom ruined all my suicidal fun.
Here's to hoping you guys don't have to develop a culture on the subject.

How often do you guys have quakes?
I left California (earthquakes) and then Florida (hurricanes) with a huge emergency preparedness box including batteries, radios, armageddon-style food and water, LifeStraws...I go through it every year, check all our flashlights and supplies every year.
Yeah, I prepare.
On the bright side that box traveled with us from Florida and the weekend we moved here, Hurricane Sandy hit, and I had solar rechargers...
My family was impressed when everyone came to stay here and I had everything I needed in the biiiiiig box.
