Alan Colmes Is Dead

I remember his old radio show before he went to Fox News (actually, it was before Fox News existed). It was decent enough, but turning himself into the Washington Generals of punditry had to be destructive to his self-respect.

I confess I never liked him. He would outright lie from time to time and overtalk his opponents robbing them of their allotted time to speak. As I said though he was a committed liberal, but a good guy according to Sean Hannity who eulogized his friend this morning.

he must have gotten along well with his sister-in-law then.

he would stick to his point

even to the level of absurdity

Who? This forum has international readership. You Yanks have to stop thinking that local semi-celebrities are even heard of.

I Bing actually. Not worth Googling for every local semi-celebrity Yanks think the world should have heard about. More substance, please.

Then why post in the thread if you're not curious enough to let you fingers do some walking? It's not like you have to go to the library and use the card catalog.

Ohhhhhh, right. You just wanted to bitch and moan without any, what did you call it, oh yeah - substance.

Thought maybe could learn who he was and why his death was news worthy. Unfortunately thread lacked enough substance to be informative.

When I was eight my grandmother gifted my family a set of encyclopedias. And from the day they were unboxed if us kids asked mom a "who, what, where, when" type question the answer was always the same. "Go look it up for yourself, that's why Grandma got you the encyclopedias."

Solid advice, and to this day I'll bet ninety percent of my Web traffic is looking stuff up for myself. I learn so much more when I seek out answers for myself instead of whining for someone to spoon feed it to me.

God bless you!!

You made an earlier reference to the "card catalog." I'll bet most people who whine about looking stuff up today have never seen a card catalog.

I'm also betting you have more than a passing familiarity with The Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature. Remember those green paperback catalogs that came out monthly? You would look up the subject matter of whatever it was you were interested in (i.e. "1960 search engine") to find any magazines (i.e. "1960 websites") that might have had articles on the subject. Every month. Year after year.

No one who had to go through that will ever bitch about having to do research in the internet age. And no one who didn't can fully appreciate being spared the tedious experience.

Actually my experience is fleeting with the Readers Guide, but it's distant cousin Shepardizing is the bane of my existence, my arch nemesis, and my Achilles heel.
