Happy Birthday USAF!

Uncle was on B-17's out of Deedenthorpe, UK. 8th AF (401stBG) 1943-45.

I was in SAC/TAC/ADC and some "other" units (nod..nod..wink..wink)! :D

Marines

All these years I celebrated the Marine Corps Birthday and now I can celebrate both. I like the idea of 2 celebrations

And another thing.....

Give 'em hell!!

High Flight

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds...and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of...wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

~John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

Thanks 'Teach, and by coincidence....

My uncle flew a mission today; 614th BS (www.401bg.com)

Station 128, Deenethorpe, England
Sunday, 17 September 1944 . . .

The 401st Bombardment Group flew operational mission number 144. The target was Groesbeck. The Group was lead by Lt. Col. W.T. Seawell.

*I'm thinking of getting my Uncle's squadron insignia painted on my motorcycle jacket. (He passed about 20 years ago)

He always was a hotshot jock after the war. Drove around in convertable T-Birds chasing dames. I always remember him pulling up to our house, aviator sunglasses, chewing Juicy Fruit. He was the youngest of the three brothers.
