AIG and the Nazis

What fundamentals changed? Don't pay attention to the ups and downs of the market that are like tracking polls and shouldn't be given much weight.

He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

When he explains exactly how fucked up of a mess we're in he's being too negative.

If he tries to present a positive image, after being badgered for negativity in the above position then he's wrong then too.

Therein lies the crux of the problem, simple greed. But I'm pretty sure that is only a republican trait, right?

It's a good bet that greed transcends party affiliation. Take that argument up with Cap'n Hypocrite the "not republican" who has lain every bit of blame at the fit of the Democratic Party, or tried to.

It' almost funny hearing the "right" scream about this not being time to point fingers when they get caught elbow deep in the cookie jar. They're all about personal responsibility, until you try to hold one of them responsible for anything. then it's no time for playing the blame game.

Yeah sure, right after you clowns perfected your attack to the rear.

It is a fact that the President just laid the seeds for future inflation...a fact. You want to praise his failures and incompetence go right ahead.

Inflation is a fact of life. This bailout is scheduled to be paid out over ten years and is less than half of the new deficit spending of the previous 6.

Why weren't you running around catching pieces of sky when the GOP was instituting $500 billion in new deficit spending a year every year?

To follow Ulaven's train of thought, if there's an outcry from the female interns on Capitol hill that must mean a Democrat is cock deep huh?

It must be late for me..

For the life of me I have no fucking idea what you're talking about.

Why would anyone follow Ulaven's train of thought??

oh and , Bye Bye Geithner....

Ideally then it should remain balanced

Such are the wages of governments' manipulating the values of their currencies instead of making sure they have a steady store of value that neither swells nor shrinks. (from your link)

I'm no economist by any means but it would seem that injecting a whole bunch of borrowed dollars is just as damaging to the economy.

What? No chart?

Thanks, Turd. Now I completely understand.
BTW, all the residential electrical use in the U.S. for a year costs the same as the AIG bailout.
That's a trade-off I could live with. Free electricity for a year and AIG in bankruptcy.
But government knows best.

Once again turd comes through with another bogus chart. WTG Turd.

The dog and pony show continues while Rome burns.

Congress, in it's infinite wisdom, has seen fit to try to punish the recipients of the retention bonuses. The phrase, "They know not what they do." comes immediately to mind. If congress can do that to these bonuses, they can do that to any bonus. And they can do that regardless as to whether the government made the loan or not. This is going to have a profound effect on business in general, and employee compensation agreements going forward, and not necessarily for the better either.

Whatever money the government thinks it's going to recover is going to be lost in legal wranglings. Teams of lawyers, government and private, are going to blow through $165 million in nothing flat. A lot of sound and fury for no discernable good purpose in the end.

This whole thing is all trumped up indignation, orchestrated even. It's roughly akin to you going to the bank and taking out a signature loan (no strings attached) for X ammount of dollars. The next day the bank shows up demanding their money back because they heard you were going to use the money to buy lottery tickets. It would seem to me that the bank should be considerably more focused on your paying the loan off than what you were going to do with the money. Congress, and the administration, seem to be wholly focused on what the company is doing with the money as opposed to recovering the loan. Given congresses long history concerning fiscal discipline this is like assigning an unrestricted power of attorney to your larcenous uncle.

All the while the economy burns. The last arrow in the governments quiver has been fired. They're monetizing the debt. That means they're jump starting inflation in the hope that rising prices will spur the economy on. The first indications are that this too is going to fail. One has to look no further than what happened in the gold market yesterday. The only possible counter the government has to this movement of wealth into gold is to repatriate gold. (That means confisctate.) This is the step that FDR took, and while it did stabilize the dollar, it didn't do a damn thing for the economy.

The consequences of jump starting inflation are too long to go into in one post. But one is that AIG, and the other recipients of the governments largess, will be repaying those loans with dollars worth significantly less than the dollars they recieved. Now that's smart business for you, isn't it? Well, it is for AIG and the others, it won't work out too well for the government.

And for you idiots that insist on talking about what Bush did, or didn't do, you're playing a game of mental masturbation. It doesn't matter what Bush did or didn't do. The economy is Obamas now, lock, stock, and barrel. The only thing that counts is what he and his adminstration do, everything else is bullshit, juvenile bullshit at that. And so far things aren't looking too good.

This jist of what I'm seeing quoted is that Harry, Nancy, and Barack were innocent by-standers just whistling "Dixie" while Bush fiddled "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and Rome burned...

As kissmynaughtycakes put it...

It's so nice to finally have a president who can read and who talks to me when he reads; finally, someone clean, articulate and BLACK that we can look up to!

Their definition of competence; Denzell Washington should be in Congress...

It's all a 'shuck and jive' show for the terminally ignorant.
