I need sum help from you sexual seamen.
I saw this vessel today from the Williamsburg Bridge. It was headed down the East River flying the NYC Dept of Environmental Protection colors. It was a catamaran style hull but as heavily built as an oceangoing tug and about the same length 80-100ft. Very low in the water. It had a bizzarre t-shaped bridge that made it look like the superstructure of a half-sunk big ship sticking above the water. As far as my lame ass eyes could tell it was named the "Cormorant". Very heavy duty hydraulic crane amidships and some kind of metallic, basketshaped looking cradles on the foredeck. Some kind of dredge or deep sea sampling boat? WHy the squat profile? Looks very stable in the water like it was meant to haul heavy loads up from the depths. The only other DEP ships I see in the river are the shit tankers. ANy help appreciated.

ps I have a bitmap drawing of this ship that was too big to upload here, will forward it to any knoledgeable mariners
