Hey! You say, It's still February! What's this "Spring" stuff?

Well, here in Southern California we get spring and summer a bit earlier than other parts of the globe (I suspect Florida is similar). This may sound good, but it means that spring green gets dries up over the long summer/warm fall months and, hence, we get the infamous fire season--yeah, those spectacular October fires

Any-hoo, Spring starts, more or less, in mid-Feb and will last till late April when, yes, for all intents and purposes Summer starts. We're just beginning to see early spring flowers and leaves appearing on the trees, the weather crisp, but clear and breezy. There'll probably be some rain yet to come (cross-fingers! We need it) which will cover the hills in greenery. So lovely a sight to see those green hills and valleys under rain clouds, blessed by a fleeting rainbow....

The Oscars are our rite of spring ;)

It'll be at least two months before I see any flowers. :(

Yeah same here...we still have snow in our forecast and will continue to have snow in the forecast off and on through about April 10th. And then who knows? Last year we got a very late snowstorm around that date that dropped six inches on us. :(

Twice in my life I've lived in places where it snowed in June.

This is our "menopausal" season. It's hot. It's cold. It cries (rains) uncontrollably for no reason. Then, suddenly gets bitchy and spits hail at you. If it's really pissy, it spins out of control and pulls a Wizard of Oz.

I love Texas.

Stop it!

It snowed three inches here last night.

The weather is contributing to my rotten mood. I need sun.

Boo.

we were under watches and warnings for severe thunderstorms/tornadoes all day yesterday.

i dont mind a late spring. i hate spring. can we skip this shit, please?
up north, these watches and warnings never happened and they make me nervous as hell!

It's just above freezing here right now. Although it was about ten degrees nicer in Atlantic City yesterday. I didn't even need my coat in the parking garage of the Showboat Casino :D

In spite of the snow and ice and sleet and rain and and wind and single-digit temperatures lately, I've got daffodils and crocuses coming up already. They're just little green nubs at this point, but they're there. :)

That's the stuff we don't have, and it doesn't rain in the summer. It just goes on getting drier and blander. There is a depressing quality to a blanched, bone-dry sidewalk in Los Angeles that is absolutely equivalent to those horrible sixteen inches of snowdrift that you know will linger until April....
I miss Summer thunderstorms.

Driving north to my sisters yesterday, all the formerly black hills were breaking out in green...

I love the symbolism there...

The smell. Especially at night when you're sleeping with the windows open and you're awakened by thunder and lightning.

Here in north Florida, it's a gorgeous day. In fact, last week it was so nice that my husband put his long winter warmup pants away--he said winter was over. Of course, within a couple of days we woke up to frost all over our cars. And the other night I was looking for this one particular pair of socks with traction soles because my feet were freezing. One was missing. Today I found the other one--tangled up in a sarong. It fell out when I shook out the sarong. That says it all.

Was walking home today--weather is cold but beautiful. There are all these little trees puffed with powder-pink flowers, and dandelions are beginning to appear on lawns. Sure sign of spring.

The next sign for me is when the chocolate-chip macaroons appear in the markets for Passover, yum! :D

Flowers are budding back home in UK. Lisbon is dragging behind at the moment, a coldish and wet winter. I'm in Munich this morning, it's bright, clear blue sky, -7C and no sign of life in the plant world. I'm going to drive up into the Alps tomorrow to see the snow, just because I can.

Temperature was in the 50s when I left for work this morning, and then I made the mistake of wearing my overcoat to work instead of my denim jacket...

My wife is out in the garden, weeding and enjoying it in the sunshine.

I'm a sidewalk superintendent.

A bad back is a great excuse.

I do the pruning and anything else that doesn't involve bending...
