Ah Hypocrites

I wont mention names but nothing annoys me more than AH writers who appeal for readers, comments, and votes, and ignore you when you do as they request. That is, not possess the common ettiquette and manners the transaction demands.

I dont suffer ingrates twice.

I'm guilty of not acknowledging some PCs.

Unless I check my list of submissions daily, which I don't, I'm likely to miss any new PC on my 200 stories. jeanne_d_artois is even worse than Og.

I do appreciate them when I see them, but acknowledging them a week or so late is embarrassing. :(

I respond to all if they have a return address. Much of its hate mail, but so what? They get an opinion too. I almost always award a 5, and almost never flog any effort. But it frosts my cake for any writer to beg for feedback, with a promise of a reply, and then they dont. I will not read them again, and they fucked themselves out of EZ 5s in the future.

I don't beg, although I appreciate any PCs or feedback. I certainly don't promise a reply even if I try to keep up. Real life often gets in the way.

Apologies to anyone I have missed, and thank you for those who have voted and commented.

One of life's essential lessons is the awareness that others pay attention to you and form opinions of what you do.

Thirty years ago a woman brought her pregnant teen in to see me. I gave the mother the best service I was capable of, and they departed. Then several weeks later I was in her building, getting plenty of attitude from a parent, and the pregnant girls mother intervened, advising the unhappy parents to STFU and let me do my job. She later told me that she appreciated how nice I was to her daughter.

Just checked the last seven days.

One PC from anonymous - "boring".

If I could respond, what should I say?

"Thank you"?

"Thank you for your recent comment. Clearly you are of the post-modern school of minimalist writing, and recognize that all that needs be thought is already in the reader's mind, and wants only to be prompted by an almost-Skinnerian stimulus. Be assured, then, that I could not help but come to the conclusion that your comment is essentially self-referential."

I'm not into authors appealing for stroking to begin with.

You can say whatever seems appropriate, BITE ME comes to mind.

My point is, dont solicit email feedback with a promise to respond, then piss on the reader becuz you dont like them or theyre 4 feet tall or theyre not faggot worshippers. Youre only inviting trouble if you care about damage to your scores, cuz one disgruntled reader can toss lotsa one bombs upon an arrogant writer.

I ask readers to vote on contest submissions, but I don't explicitly ask for comments and I never say I'll answer any. Geez, who has the time?

I did thank commenters at first when they weren't anonymous, but that got to be pretty tedious pretty damn quick.

I hear what you're saying, though, JBJ. If an author says they'll answer comments or feedback, they should follow through. I'm of the mind, though, that a lot of those who say they want feedback are relatively new and haven't built up much of a following.

I'm of a mind that writers oughta be honest about what they want. PLEASE FLATTER ME WITH A BACKPAT, A 5, AND IF YOU LIKE COCK AS MUCH AS I DO, I'LL REWARD YOU WITH A REPLY TO YOUR FEEDBACK.

Or, better yet, "If I feel like it, I'll answer you."

There yuh go!

The attitude sours readers against all writers. AH writers constantly bitch about feedback they dont get, and there's a reason for it. Their pals and buds blowoff readers.
