This may not be a first, but it does seem to be a recent trend.

Is the AH going up or the GP going down?

Is this the end of the AH civilization as we know it?

Is that a good or bad thing?

I need a drink.

ps: They're heading for the exits. Fifteen minutes later (11:45) the AH was down to a less abnormal 52, while the GP had 97. rf

Usually, though, you'll see a difference in the view-per-post ratios as a forum heats up. The AH has a pretty steady 8 or 9 views per post, and has since I first came here-- unless, of course, the thread title has the promise of more than usual smut or a political free-for-all... I've noticed that the ratio is still about the same, no matter how many people are supposed the be in here.

But the question is, are they big tithers? The Right Rev loves all cheerful givers. But a big building, swanky parsonage, outreach work among those of loose morals, and spiritual retreats for prayerful meditation in Vegas, among other things, requires more than a bunch of skimpy IOU's and prayer requests.

Granted, you guys are great, but the GB holds some extraordinary people that wouldn't visit over here if you paid them because the AH is so damned stuck up and has an attitude undeserving of their social contribution

It's not just a faster pace, it's a deeper pool of circumstances and opinions.

The AH exists within a few parameters and social norms. If you behave witin those parameters and social norms, everyone is polite.

Polite is not necessarily conducive to conveying opinion or truth. The fact that someone's figured out a post view ratio or watching someone else's attendance is kinda appalling. How does that NOT relate to concern over status?

If I have a question, I go to the GB because there are a lot of different answers. If I come to the AH, it's pretty much the same approved answer with lots of head nodding and "we are family" back slapping.

There's nothing wrong with that, but it's a bit like visiting the country club with everyone sipping tea and talking about how smart and socially well adapted they are.

Nauseating in high doses. Being on the GB is a lot more like walking the streets and talking to everyone on there. It's not as edited, and it isn't populated by people who are concerned whether or not they fit a particular standard.

There is a very bright, urbane and virtuous GB coterie who among other things plays clever games with the language. I've felt like the dweeb who gets to hang out with the cool people when I've hung with them a few times.

"Lurking" is an alien concept to me. This may surprise some people, but I tend to speak right up, not hold back, and say what I what I think.

What's with the anti-emoticon convention in GB?
