Agent Recommendations

I've begun to send my first novel, mainstream literary, out to some publishers.
I know the chances of getting lucky are slim, and so I'm also looking to find an agent before long.

Writer's Marekts, etc, have an awesome number of agents listed, and I've been trying to weed through. Some have websites and shouldn't. And some have websites that are so acondescending that I'd rather paper my room with rejection letters before I can imagine talking on the phone regularly with them. A very few made my first scratch list.

So, what I'm looking for are any first hand accounts you'd like to share about agents you like, or even those to stay away from.

You could do a lot worse than check out Absolute Write http://www.absolutewrite.com/prededitors/ They have a very active forum on this subject. Preditors and Editors http://www.anotherealm.com/prededitors/ is also a good site for info on agents, publishers, and scammers.
