I just saw on the news that Iran has lowered the legal age for marriage to 13!
I lost my virginity at 12, but I was not mature enough for the big "life sentence"!

Question; Do you think that's the prearranged marriage thing for that culture, or do they need to blow out litters of kids for Allah like the catholics?
What is the legal age of consent/marriage in your town, province, state, cave..etc?

In my state, it's sixteen last time I checked..:D

It's 18 here.

And geesh, I don't know any Catholics who are producing litters in the name of Allah or Christ or God.

It'd be more for the prearranged marriages, and it's usually the girl's age that's lower like that as they're used as barter between the fathers. Most males in those cultures wouldn't get married before 16.

17 here in Tx. I know I had to sign a consent form for my son to get married. Thank God 2 weeks later he turned 18 and joined the Army! *whew* Shit now I'm going to be a grandmother to boot!

Its 18 here in Australia, but personally I think its far too young.

I was first married at 19 - no surprise that I'm divorced now. :D

Who knows bindii, maybe it just wasn't meant to be. My parents were married at 18,19 years old and still have a happy marriage nearly 30 years later. But marraige isnt' nessecarily an easy thing. Around here Its 18, but I know someone that got married at 16(parental consent of course.....and pregnant at the time). But i'm two weeks from my 21st and it doesn't look like I'll get married anytime soon.

I got married at 19. We knew we were too young to do it, but did it anyway. We worked really hard at it for a long time, but we've just change way too much, and are now in the process of getting divorced - 13 years later.

I don't regret it, and most of the time I don't feel like I failed. I knew the odds weren't with me, and now in my happier moments, I actually feel like I have kind of a new life to start.

And, I have no idea what the age of marriage in my state is, but I think it's 17 or 18.

Depends on where you live. I went to a Catholic high school and knew at least ten families with six kids or more. The highest was 13. (One was adopted.) Hell, in that family, there are nieces and nephews older than their aunts and uncles!

Its 18 around here, or 16 with parental consent.
And yes, it is too young. I got married when I was 18, and it was over by the time I was 20. At that age you're just not old enough to be able to appreciate all the ramifications of what you're doing to your life.

I knew a girl in Tennessee who was married at 13. Her husband was older and they didn't consumate the marriage until she was 15. If you think that they were a backwards backwoods couple you'd be wrong. He was a prominant lawyer.

Wouldn't some of that have to do with birth control being forbidden though, rather than them procreating purposefully to build the congregation up?

I have 7 sisters and 6 brothers and both of my birthparents are Catholic, but judging by their extramarital affairs and multiple marriages, they just liked sex :) And I also think they just didn't really think about birth control that much.
