The story I'm working on is about an 18 year old girl who's madly in love with an older friend. I've written a flashback (totally non-sexual) scene where she meets him for the first time when she's twelve and he's about nineteen. Basically, he's like a teen idol for her at that point and she's totally crushed out on him. Is that a scene that will be kosher for Lit? Anybody have any experience with this sort of situation? Any advice would be appreciated. :)

As long as the clothes stay on and there's no obvious sexual innuendo, it should be fine. Even some innuendo might be okay ("We'll talk about that when you're old enough"). But if you're thinking that the twelve-year-old has sexual fantasies about the older boy, that would be best handled through vague allusion.

The way I understand it, anything non-sexual with minors is okay...but I'd wait for WH to weigh in or maybe PM him.

No, at that point, she pictures him in strictly an "OMG, he's so dreamy!" kinda way, telling her friends she's going to marry him one day, etc. :D

At 12, a 7-year age gap seems like a chasm.
20 years later, it's nothing.

You shouldn't have a problem. I've had several underaged characters in my stories. As long as they aren't around any of the "action," it's all cool.

Cool. I sorta figured. I have written about a characters' kids or underaged co-workers in a Lit story before, but I wasn't sure how it would fly with my main characters in this flashback situation.

I'd say you could go as far as her (as a kid) giving him dreamy looks or surprising him with an ambush kiss on the cheek. But you'd probably have to be careful about depicting the way the older boy responds. If there's any hint that he gets turned on by her advances, some moderators/editors might nix the story just because of that.

Go for it as long as there's no monkey stuff goin' on.....
I write about a couple of my ex's fantasies and realities concerning older guys.....at the time I was a tad annoyed and perhaps intimidated because they were getting all gushy about some 'old dude'.....now, however, I'm flattered when a nubile, younger woman flirts with me....

The whole conflict, even when she's legal, is that he's such an honorable guy who really sees himself as an older brother figure and mentor to her. It's difficult for him to give in to his true feelings once he falls in love with the woman she becomes. Oh, but she'll eventually wear him down. ;)

I'd love to write about the crazy stuff I did to get the attention of older guys when I was way way too young, but I definitely couldn't post it here!
