Maybe this has been addressed, maybe not.

A question that applies to either party. Nothing bias, nothing pertaining to present administration. Under Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution, a Presidential candidate must turn 35 years old by the time of inauguration. This is the law. My question, should there also be a law of a maximum age of a candidate at time of inauguration?

My opinion is YES. I would hold new law at age at 65.

Would you campaign for an amendment?

I think there doesn't need to be a hard limit imposed.....I think voters should work to make it a soft limit.

I don’t disagree with you but ultimately, the voters get to decide

35 is a hard number, why shouldn't it work both ways?

Because the framers were smart enough to understand that younger men tend to be hot blooded so they put minimum age limit on eligibility. That way the President had lived experience to draw on while in office. Then there's the fact that no man knows either the mental state of another or when their death will come. Advanced age isn't determinative of either of those things because they are individual traits that can't be generalized.

The hidden agenda in what you're proposing is the same tired bullshit that the Dems are trying against Trump. Biden was decrepit but you were fine with his senility but you're not ok with Trump. Not because of his age but because of who he is.

Which is disingenuous of you and everyone else who tries to promote this BS.

You're taking this exactly where I didn't want this to go. It isn't about Trump, isn't about Biden. It's a fair quest about moving forward. To young IS too young, I agree. But to old IS too old.

Biden was starting to show the years and he was elbowed out. the issue of age didn't apply to his replacement because too few people showed themselves willing to vote for a black woman.

So a proven pedophile rapist fraudster was elected despite showing signs of dementia. It's a shame that the GOP didn't have the courage to elbow out their candidate like the Dems did.

You're also making this about the party. My question is neutral, everyone included.

Derpy said that Dems were OK with Trump being too old, but not OK with who he is. That seems about right except the bit about him not being too old. Dementia has set in and needs to be addressed.

So, what age would you vote for on maximum age?

It has been discussed on this board before, and I stick with my previous stance of 75 as the cutoff.

Hard caps on both ends of the age spectrum is NOT unreasonable.

I would also suggest a requirement that the individual have previously served as a Governor, Mayor, Senator, or Congressional representative.

Experience governing seems like a reasonable requirement.

Just sayin’…

😑

We. Told. Them. So.

Good point.

75 seems like a reasonable mamimum age.

The only Presidents in my lifetime that didn’t meet your experience requirement are Eisenhower and Trump

I would be willing to expand the field to include a General who served in a significant position of authority in government (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, etc).

Eisenhower being supreme allied commander in Europe during WWII and some of his other experience in governance would qualify.

👍

The discussion obviously doesn’t apply to Dementia Donnie. He’s “grandfathered” in (ha) and term limited. 👍

The age requirement may drop as average lifespan drops and wars become more frequent. From battlefield promotion to politician may become a more common path.

I agree some form of experience and readiness should be a part of a candidate's requirement.
I think 75 is a little old though. That puts them at 83 if 2 terms are served.

^shades of Logan's Run...

The boomers are starting to die off. The demographics will remain topheavy for a while, but Trump could be the last president past 70.
