I have been an outspoken supporter of the community of How To, which became my "Lit home" a few months ago. While I do post in Playground threads for fun, I come here to be a member of a community.

LG, I am happy to see that you will leave most of the essential How To threads here and intact. Like WW, I was especially concerned about the WFYS? thread as it is our earth mother in a way. I did a little bit of statistical research the other day and found that WFYS? has either the most or second-most number of posts ever in this forum, going back to the beginning. But what I was very pleased to see was that it had only the seventh or eighth largest number of views, giving it the highest ratio of posts-to-views of any of the larger threads. This tells me that this thread may be one of most participative in all of Lit. It's not merely for entertainment, but for genuine community-building.

Welcome to How To. I hope you'll post an introduction soon - if you haven't already done so.

I pretty much stay exclusively here at How To because of the high level of intellectual conversation that goes on. While most posts fall into the “problem solving” or “shared experiences” categories of a true “how to” thread, there are just as many good conversations about life, spirituality, sex, relationships, hobbies, politics, etc. that may not necessarily fall under the how to realm. Discussing these things in this forum is a legitimate venue, especially when one does not want to have a serious subject hijacked, as often happens under the GB or PG. Hopefully we can all find a good balance here.

Just wanted to share a story with you, I worked with a nice guy who got along with his co-workers. Time went by and one day he got promoted to a leadership / management position.

Almost immediately he started telling everyone what was right and what was wrong with how they behaved and did their job.

It created a lot of chaos and disgruntled people. Not because he was wrong per se, but he had not earned his spurs as a manager yet. And of course the law of "unintended consequences" came and bit him as well.

I think if he'd been more subtle in his approach he'd have gotten support and cooperation. But as management he could demand action but people lost respect for him as a person and as a leader.

Just an experience of mine that came to mind after reading your stickies.

I think the problem with what folks are saying is that Lit is designed wrong. I know lit started off as a sex site. But long timers have moved more into community and support and friendships.
The Playground is the same. It was supposed to be more of an personal ad section and has a mixture of that, place friends, plus, picture posts. And General is the same. Most of it political. When I created my threads I really didn't see how they fit in where to post. So maybe what we need to do is create a new area called Community, or Neighborhood. Something that will fit the comminuity threads that have been set up on all the other sites. I agree with you.... there are many threads here that do not have anything to do with HOW TO. But before we start moving things, I think we need to create a whole new area called Comminuty where most of these threads will fit.
Because my two have nothing to do with looking for dates or how to. Yes they would fit better on General, but most of the people I know do not go there because they do not feel comforatable there. I am here in How to, or Playground and ok I will admit it... I go to the picture thread as well... and even some of these started out posting pics, they stop and are more of a community.
It would make more sense to create a new level and move all the community threads there and those of us that have threads we can request to move there... give us time to post to all and let them know we are moving. ANd let the Playground be about looking for someone, and Pictures be about pictures and How to be about how to.
I see where she is coming from folks and I tend to agree with her but we need to create a new area for to be moved to.

If I take your suggestion to the extreme...say on the pic forum...you mean people can only post pics and others go yeah baby? I purposely stay away from the threads where the poster doesn't respond on an individual basis to those that post to them. It's a mini community...that sometimes spreads across other threads...say 4 people post pics and have their own threads so they post on each other's threads and admirers/friends of one become admirers/friends of another so they all end up posting off each other on one or more of the threads. I don't know how you move that community to a single area. Of course that's just one example.

Maybe I misunderstood you...but those were my concerns about your suggestion.

I as the author of a thread recently moved, I made the storngest protest to LG I could, understanding that LG is God and having a moderator upset with you can be the kiss of death.

I mentioned that even though I didn't pose my thread as a "how to", I wanted the response of the HT community and not the GB community.

However my appeal fell on deaf ears (or I was too subtle).

But given this public apeal by others, I must join in saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix".

And IMHO, it an't broke -- it's working very well, thank you all.

Yea you misunderstood. I mean is you are going to post pics, then be in the post pic area. And I am not talk the hand full of times you do it. But what I am saying is if the thread is mainly a community thread then make a community area. The only board I don't hang out at is the GB board. And to be honest from that area, I found some nice folks but for the most part I found a lot of smartasses and know it all. Got to where I just do not go there anymore. And I think that is a feeling from a lot of people I have talked to.
What I am saying is maybe another Forum for comminities. People on How to, Pic and Play seem to be about the same people or more caring of others. So... again those were my thoughts and people are going to do to this site what they want to do with it. We do need to keep something in mind too.
This is a FREE Site and we are not paying any of the bills but we spend a lot of time on their site and boards. Yes we are making it what it is, but people do need to pay for the site and how much it costs to run it. If they want to change the site and maybe LG is just following that she is told to do and that is clean things up.
All I know is we need to be thankful we have this place and even if they move us - ok we deal with it. If people care about the thread they will be come members of it and just follow where it goes. I mean after all... it is free and we do not pay a single thing to be on here. Hope it stays that way too... but you never know. We just need to be thankful we have a place to come that does not charge us.

I frequent the HT board quite often, even if I don't post here as much anymore.

I haven't noticed LadyG moving mass amounts of threads - only a statement that she would be moving off topic threads and thus far only a couple of threads moved. In this she has my full support. One of the main reasons I quit posting as much on this board is because of the inane chatter that started to spring up. Some people enjoy that. Some, like me, do not think it is appropriate for this forum. In my opinion, the idea of there being a "core group of posters" is very inhibiting to the idea of being able to ask a question in an anonymous fashion to anonymous people. I would rather have the opinions of many different types of people, not just those that mesh well because they have similar opinions on many things.

Regardless of whether the "core group of posters" feels this is appropriate or not - it simply is not your choice. You don't get to choose who moderates. You don't get to weigh in, nor do you get to vote as to how this "community" should be handled. You have no rights here. None, zero, zip, zilch.

It is a free service that you take advantage of. If you policed yourself well - many of the threads that are here would not be.
If it were a pay service, I could understand the outrage. The simple fact is that it is not.

I don't know LadyG other than in passing. I don't know the "core group of posters" other than in passing. What I do know is that I have seen LadyG post that she will answer any questions that come up and is willing to let you get to know her - how about the "core group of posters" doing the same before crying foul?

It is like people who have to get blood drawn and start crying before the needle even gets near their arm. Give it time. It may not hurt as bad as you think it is going to. If your thread does happen to get moved - think for a moment about whether it really belonged here. Regardless of if you posted it here because it is where you feel most comfortable - again, it isn't about you. It is about keeping the board on topic.

Weird Harold made an excellent suggestion - if it is really that important to the "core group of posters" then petition site management about having a sub forum. One or two posters do not a petition make though - so make it loud and make it strong.

Spenser ...btw I love your AV ...I'm well aware this is a free site and I am thankful to those who foot the bill and provide such a wonderful place. I never said, nor meant to imply, that they had no right to do whatever they want with this site. They do...hands down, they do. But as an active member, I think I also have a responsibility and the freedom to comment, advise, show concern when I am fearful that something I love may be damaged. I was honestly fearful of the potential for harm to this community if threads like WFMS were moved. LG has addressed this specific fear by saying it was not her intent to move it and she understands the role it plays here and that this is a community. I take her at her word for that...I have no reason to doubt her word.

The thread I started about weighing in was not intended as a venue to exercise my/our right to dictate how this forum is run. I'm well aware I/we have no final say. It was started because I didn't think many people read the 'sticky' posts and didn't think they would see LG's posts. I was concerned and thought others might be as well if they knew. I wanted to offer a venue to express any concerns, comments, opinions (for or against) so people could weigh in. I assumed LG would read, listen, weigh the opinions expressed, and use her judgement with the added knowledge she had gained. Nothing has changed my mind...we're talking...she's listening.

I sincerely hope you will read the threads and posts here and not jump in and make wholesale changes without knowing what's going on here. And I don't care if you've been here 4 years and posted 30,000 on the GB. That doesn't count.

I have read all the posts on these two threads and concur with most all of their points. Bobmi, Readyone, WW, Capricious, BlueSugar, Spenser, and all the others make good, valid points that I don't want to repeat.

We DO NOT want a "Core group of Posters" here! That is a problem with some other boards, like the AH. I would rather that the How To be open to ANYONE who needs an answer, or HAS an answer, to be able to post here and receive the respect they deserve. (And they usually GET that here.)

There IS a special community of people here that is ever changing. It is not 20-30 people who post special threads for each other only. I have posted several threads here that simply did not fit anywhere else. They weren't about authors, stories, playing, pictures, or ideas for stories. I posted them here because I wanted to share with the people here. Some would, technically, have been more appropriate for the BG. But if I posted them there, I'd just get flamed and the thread would disappear to page 6 before anyone could read it. I started the "How to make People Laugh" thread after reading several very intense and emotional threads that involved people's LIVES! I thought people here needed an opportunity for a break and a smile to releive their tensions. With your guidelines, it would have been moved and disappeared very quickly.

I usually check here first, and have found many answers about "G" spots, anal, licking, sucking, fucking, relationship problems, dildos, vibrators, WFYS, virgin or not, to cheat or not, exibitionism, teasing, hot to be sexy, how to make your partner sexy, and many different ways to fix a computer!

We are all writing these posts because you ARE new here, and probably don't fully understand why we all like to visit and read the posts here. You said you would listen and consider all of our concerns. I beleive you and hope you will. There is no other forum like this one anywhere that I have seen. So, clean out the garbage, but please don't throw out the baby with the trash.

ok everyone... disgruntled old, frustrated new, wise ancient or passer by regulars from other boards.

This is starting to sound more angry then concerned. LG and Angel have been around for a long time, (and things have changed since Lit's grand opening) and only mean to help us - and we are treating them like outsiders trying to ruin our little community. Don't we pride ourselves on helping and being open minded? There is no need for retaliation or a violent overthrow...
It is true that we can be chatty, and it is true that our chat is different from other fluffy threads on other boards. It is true that we are a community of regulars much like the other boards on lit has (with a few cross over posters of course...) it is true we don't need to be fixed. But some things could be saved for PMs or ther means of communication.

Like other boards, we like to share with each other our hardships and good days - and what good are they if they are moved to other boards when what we want to share is with the community on the HT? I think this is the concern that people here are trying to express - or at least something close to it.
We have helped each other through bad sex and bad days, we have shared our births and graduations - just like other boards and I do not feel that these things should be moved... 2 month old threads or not.

I also think the problem here is that LG is trying to free up the board so that its main purpose shines through better, and have the HT be mainly things that this board is supposed to be used for, this way Lit runs more profeciently. But... due to the new posters asking the same questions just in their own threads and not using the search function (something we're all guilty of when we're noobs.) or using The Blank Manual... we answer them polietly in a few posts or direct them to links quickly.

I don't know if the rest of you feel this way, but I do. I'll get to a thread with my knowledge, read 3 posts... and everything I want to say - is there already, so there is no reason for me to post and the thread dies, and the poster is happy with the info they recieved. We are also bored of the same things being asked - thus The Manual. I'm sure the bdsm board has this same problem, infact... I know they have the same problem. So many of the posters have been around oh so long, they couldn't help but to be chatty and thus got the Bdsm Cafe.

Which brings me to the suggestion for another board to be made with the title/basic purpose "Community" for all the peaceful talks about life in general. BUT that is the problem, we have a board for that, and it is supposed to be The General Board... but anyone who has spent more then a day on that board, knows that the regulars take over, the alts/trolls and flame wars start and perfectly good threads are turned to fluff. They are a tough hardy crowd to run with and is difficult to keep up on for many reasons and the number of people that do spend their time there. Some of it got so bad that even the glbt community broke off and got their board Done and done. It was all settled.
I do not think a community board is neccessary. Everyone has their place. Some have settled on the GB, PG, BDSM... we have chosen this as our Lit home and we don't appreciate it being tampered with - everyone needs fluff. "all work and no play..." yadda yadda yadda.

As Mods they have their terms, and we have ours. We need to work together and find a happy medium. I think we are a little taken back because we haven't seen much of LG or Angel because they did spend most of their time on other boards. And with them coming here I'm sure there will be more poster crosses as people follow others posts (we all do it, so relax). So please don't shoot the tresspassers...

1. We need to keep this board a little cleaner with the use of PMs, I agree with this.

2. Things that already exist should not be moved and now that we have a new Mod with a new vision we are not pawns, we have a voice and we must use it -- but constructively. Don't just bitch, it gets nothing done, use constructive criticisms, not Nazi pictures or calling people morons. That is just plain rude, and is not what this or any of the boards should stand for.

3. LG needs to step back as a Mod and post/lurk more on the HT to see how it runs before making any more decisions so she is brought to the HT speed and inner workings. Please listen to what we have to say- we are strong as a unit. Meet the old and the new people and the way we all work together.

4. Think before you post.

We may have a "core group" but that is because these 20 or so posters call this home and have alot of knowledge to share on the topics that are posted here. Just as many call the GB home and always throw out the welcome rug to noobs (in their own way of course "show us your tits" comes to mind actually...) We do not mean to have a core group, we welcome people's questions and threads and coming outs, we are very open minded. I mean there are a few Animal threads, and incest pops up here and there but is generally directed to ancient long threads that have covered everything they need and more -- when things like that pop up on most other boards, they are flamed to death or directed here.

No more attacks please. Work together. Some fluff is needed to sustain any board. Stop acting like children. And take a good look around at what we have here...

Hello and welcome from one lady to another.


Just my own little word thrown in here. I am not an exclusive"how to" poster. I post on other boards but i do love topost here-why? it has a very open but warm community feel to it.

I can dip in, reply to threads and dip out again but always i will get a considered response.

There is a community here and it is a very warm and welcoming one. My point is I think if you want a community to build you need "fluff" threads. you need theads where people can just come together and be themselves. I don't think there is an awful lot of them on here and I really don't think they get in the way of the "how to" threads.


I just advocate caution dear Lady.You don't want to upset the balance of this very warm and friendly board
