....finally Henry and Bob get married.

Henry Schalizki, left, and Bob Davis first met in 1942 in Rhode Island. They happened to be in the same place at the same time and spent the entire night talking, but oddly enough nothing more happened.

Three years later, the pair crossed paths in Baltimore. A romance that has lasted more than 60 years soon followed.

On June 20, they exchanged vows on the balcony of the presidential suite at the J.W. Marriott in Washington.

Congratulations to you two wonderful gents. Your story brought a lump to my throat and a very happy tear to my eye.

:heart::heart:

Bob and Henry on their wedding day

Congrats to Bob and Henry. And that was one long engagement! I'm happy for them...Now that the District of Washington has it legal to get married as gays, let us see if perhaps they can come around and make it legal throughout the USA. (One can dare to dream, right?)

Hold your hosses! D.C. is a Federal District where Federal Law prevails. The Federal Guvmint doesnt recognize same-sex marriage.

People see us everywhere.
They think you really care.
But myself, I can't deceive,
I know it's only make believe.

My one and only prayer, is that some day, you'll care.
My hopes, my dreams come true, my one and only you.
No one will ever know, how much I love you so.
My only prayer will be, some day you'll care for me,
But it's only make believe.

My hopes, my dreams come true, my life, I'd give for you.
My heart, a wedding ring, my all, my everything.
My heart I can't control; you rule my very soul.
My only prayer will be, some day you'll care for me,
But it's only make believe.

My one and only prayer, is that some day, you'll care.
My hopes, my dreams come true, my one and only you.
No one will ever know, how much I love you so.
My only prayer will be, some day you'll care for me,
But it's only make believe.

So sorry JBJ. It is legal in the DC area. Has been since approx. 2009. Apparently, they don't feel the way you do. Get over it.

According to the article, Davis wasn't immediately onboard with the idea: "We're accepted as two human beings, always as a couple. I said, 'I don't see any reason for it,'" Davis recalls. "Besides that, Vera Wang will never make a gown for me to wear."

:D These two are an inspiration. :rose:

Federal law doesnt recognize same-sex marriage. DC is a federal district. It has no states rights. The DC city council can ordain whatever it pleases but Congress-President have to okay it for it to be legal.

This is the Respect For Marriage Act legislative history. The bill is in committee. So the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996 is still the law.

In December, 2009, the District of Columbia Council passed a same sex marriage law, subject to a Congressional review period. It is anticipated that same sex couples in DC will be allowed to marry beginning in March, 2010.

Article One, Section Eight of the United States Constitution grants the U.S. Congress ultimate authority over Washington, D.C. The District of Columbia did not have an elected city government until the passage of the 1973 Home Rule Act. The Act devolved certain Congressional powers over the District to a local government administered by an elected mayor, currently Adrian Fenty, and the thirteen-member Council of the District of Columbia. However, Congress retains the right to review and overturn laws created by the city council and intervene in local affairs.

So if Congress does not overturn it, then it is legal. Again, JBJ, get over it.

Congrats, fellas. Best of luck to you both. :D
