Advice On Destressing

I keep telling you to come visit me... we don't pay water or for the gas to heat it. ;)

:D I'm going to come visit you. That's just added incentive. ;)

Well, you just hop on a plane and I'll pick you up at the airport.

I'm making bread pudding tomorrow (there's my other destressor -- I bake. Almost every baked good in my house is homemade.) so there's an extra incentive!!!

You have to set your life up to not have anything to stress about... it may take awhile.
Everyone is so used to the fast pace. Getting enough money to pay for the things you want begins to take away from the things you really need... like peace

I've had a heap of stress this year, so much so that it was affecting my health (menstrual cycle went WAY out of whack). Most of those things I had no control over, like losing my job, having to move (not by choice), my father getting seriously ill (we almost lost him), and a relationship breakup as well as money worries.

Thank god for friends....both in r/l and online. Venting helped so much. I would put on loud music (I'm a heavy metal fan) and either dance around the room or go for a drive with it cranked up in the car. I made myself eat properly, because I tend not to when I'm upset. And I coped, because I had to. I learned that I was stronger than I thought I was......

I know a thing or two about stress. I remember at one point hyperventilating resulting in vomiting... if you have not reached that point, I have a few ways of destressing.

First, make a list. Figure out what you need to do and number them with a priority scale. Give like a five to paying bills, a one to washing the dishes in the sink.

Second, put in some "me-time" on the list. Tell yourself that you can't get the other things done until you are able to loosen up and relax. Remind yourself that your happiness and well being should rank very high on that list.

The reason I said write a list is important. Time to start crossing things off. Do the dishes. Cross it off. Deicde which bill to pay, pay them, postmark them, put them in the mailbox. Cross it off. When you start seeing things crossedoff, it will help you relax.

Then, take your "me-time". It doesn't have to be a lot of time. My schedule often left little time for things like sleep. And when I did have time to sleep, I'd lie there thinking about school work - in fact I'd dream in AutoCAD (sickening I know). So do something to get your mind completely off of the problem. Like read a book or watch a movie. I personally enjoy these two options because I can eat ice cream, give myself a manicure and a facial at the same time. By the time the movie is over. I'm cleaner, fresher feeling and ready to collapse into a FULL NIGHT's SLEEP. And the next day I wake up ready to attack my list again.

i'm the generic type...

fold clothes. make your bed. take the time out to decorate jsut a litle... buy some flowers cut them up and stick them in a clear vase with some fish marble/pebble things...

i guess that's sorta along the lines of that japanest thing where arrangement makes your living spage better which helps your mind... or something... except without movig arround furniture.. it's the small things that make you feel accomplished or settled.

Actually I totally agree with you ammre!

I've often destressed by simply taking the time to clean up and beautify my space a little. Makes me feel refreshed. I have in fact made it a habit to clean my desk before I do any work there. It can get messy at times - covered with sticky residue and bits of chipboard and scraps of trace paper.

Same goes for my room when I'm stressed. I'll pick up all the discarded clothes and dust and vaccuum. Don't tell my mom this but sometimes I'll even make my bed. I find that sometimes I sleep better when all my covers are straight. But I do tend to like sleeping under the weight of many blankets or someone's leg :)
