During this crisis everyone wants to help. Let's stop the blame game for a minute and look at an aspect a friend just told me about.

Adopt a Town. A small town in Oklahoma has adopted a town in Louisiana to help them out. They're raising money by car washes, passing jars at football games, cakes sales, etc.

Thinking about it, if each of our towns adopted a storm stricken town then we'll know help will arrive. From the Coast of Alabama, inland Mississippi and Lousiana, hundreds of small towns are in desperate need.

Start your own grassroots movement if the local government won't help out. With the support of the citizens, government will eventually join in.

If you're in the states, ask local truckers if they'll donate a run of the supplies you gather to the town. Ask businesses if they're willing to donate time or money to help out. Many people are willing to help if asked.

Gather your sources, use your eloquence of writing to help out. Use every contact you have and let's be creative. Pass along ideas to the rest of us so we can use them to help each town out.

I'm going to start here in Mobile and try to get the town to Adopt Waveland, MS. A small town on the Louisiana-Mississippi border that was devastated.

Let me know what you think. If not, just do it. ADOPT A TOWN!!!!

I read something about adopting a family. My hubby is totally into that, especially the closer we get to Thanksgiving and Christmas. That might be a thought as well ...

This may be a naive question, but how would you start?
I have connections with trucking companies so thats not an issue. How do you get the town you live in on board to start something?
Thanks in advance!

Talk to the organisations in your town, not necessarily the politicians and officials. Try the PTA, the ex-service clubs, the women's organisations, Rotary etc.

Once some of those are on board the politicians will jump on the bandwagon.

I just emailed the principal at our school to see what we can do.
So far my idea is to adopt a school. Sending supplies down to an area where they can help a school that has been distroyed. Realizing that the school wouldnt be there but the kids from that area should be in an emergency center. I thought sending school supplies and essentials down with clothes etc would help the kids regain their strength to survive this.
I would hope to get a trailor to park at the school and have people bring donations to the school.
If the Principal okays this, Id have him put a note in our news letter to go home to the parents. But most of all Id call the paper to have them put something in about the cause and to get other schools from the area to bring stuff over too.
Do you think this is a good idea?
