My mother gave me her laptop on my birthday and I’ve decided to use it for school. Unfortunately, while it comes with a mouse it has no mouse port. It uses a touchpad that I can’t use. I mean I have to move it around for a couple of minutes before I can start word. It’s annoying as heck and I’m wondering if there is anyway this can be fixed.

has it got a usb port or what other ports has it got i think you can get adaptors to make them mouse ports

Or just an out and out USB mouse.

It has a headphone and microphone jack, two phone jacks, a DVD, a floppy disk, and one little port I can stick four fingers in.. maybe for a memory card?

My device manager says I have a printer port and USB hub and host controler but I don't see any of those.

If it has a USB port, just buy a mouse for USB ports. Problem solved. Oh, and get yourself an optical mouse (it doesn't have that round ball underneath, which you have to clean every so often).

You can thank me later.

Can you give me the make and model so I can look it up and see what those ports are?

-1, Redundant.

like spinny said if had usb port could get a usb mouse

also i think if it had a printer port you could get an adapter to use a serial mouse in it (i think)

best thing to do would find the make and model and look up the website

often if it has got usb ports they will have a cover over them and can be weird to find out how to unlock them

It sounds rather old. Does it perhaps have a pS/2 mouse port? This is a smallish round thing with some really small prongs in it.

Maybe a serial port. That's about an inch or so wide. I'm afraid I'm not much help. My standard response is to PM Weird Harold. LOL

I just added a mouse to my laptop on Friday. But I have a bunch of USB ports, so it was very easy.

I know the difference between a optical and standard mouse.

The mouse the laptop came with has both a regular and USB hookup but I can't find any where to plug it in.

Call your mom and ask her. She should know, since it was hers. Right?

It’s a Compaq Presario Notebook.
Oh, that thing’s called a FutureBay (TM)

A lot of times the ports are only replicated on the docking stations. The USB ports might not be on the laptop itself.

Is there a compartment in the back of the laptop? On my Vaio, there's a groove in the back to open the cover. Inside, there are additional ports. Perhaps in there?

My mother wouldn't let me install games I bought at the store on the home computer because they might have viruses.
My mother haven't figured out how to play CDs on her computer.
My mother still doesn't understand the difference between an ISP and a browser.

My mother is not a computer person.

I'm just screwing around.

In other words, you have nothing to contribute. Good job.

I wouldn't mess with screws. If you have to remove screws to remove the cover, that's not the cover I was referring to.

If you cant find the USB ports on the laptop itself, you could get a PCMCIA card that adds the USB ports, then use the USB mouse. A bit klunky, but it will get you a mouse (and any other USB you want like cams and such).

PCMCIA USB hub
