I woke up this morning in an absolutely foul mood. It was all of 57°F, clear and calm. Of course in this absolutely beautiful riding weather my bike is sick with the Flu.

Then a guy in work I know gives me a call. He's an M.D. I work with. He asks if I'm going to be home and I tell him I will be. I have work to do on the bike.

A short time later he shows up in his Shiny little Mercedes SUV towing an enclosed trailer. When I step out to meet him he smiles and tells me he has a favor to ask of me. He opens the trailer and inside sits his wifes bike. He tells me he just had some work done on it and wants me to give it a test run.

We wheel it out of the trailer and park it next to my bike as I ask him if he's sure. He just tells me to put some miles on it and let him know if it runs like it's supposed to. (What the hell, all he had done was new tires put on it.) I tell him I'll give it a short test run. He tells me he expects at least 100 miles. Oh boy.

After he leaves the wife and I head inside. We suck down some more coffee and take some nice hot showers. We dress in jeans and heavy shirts then grab our gear. Boots and Jeans. Leather Jackets, gloves and helmets. Everything is ready. I climb into the saddle and check things out. This is a different bike than mine. I ride an older CB750c and this is an almost new Honda VTX1300. The seat is lower and the pegs are set up different but everything else is where they are supposed to be.

I fire it up and listen to the sweet music of the engines rumble as I back it out of the parking area. My wife climbs aboard and we're off. A quick roll around the block and I understnd the bike. Onto the main road we head and I roll on the throttle. Oh man I'm liking this. Two miles down the road I bank right and hit the Slab, rolling on the throttle and feeling the bike roar and rumble beneath us as we accelerate up to 75MPH.

Fifty miles north I bank us off the Highway and head for some back roads heading west. The bike is handling beautifully and I'm relaxing. I'm needing this ride. We pass a bank and the thermometer is showing a chilly 62°F. We're comfotable in our leathers though. We're actually enjoying the heat coming off the engine beneath us.

A bit later we start heading south again, but stop for a few minutes at one of those little Mom and Pop places. This one was selling Egg and Cheese Sandwiches on Toast. They made them fresh to order. I had mine with Anduillie while my wife had hers with Bacon.

We had put a bit over 200 miles on the bike riding in a large circle when we were getting close to home. We were almost home when we hit a stop light. As we were sitting there a car comes up alongside us. The driver has his window open and is looking at us as we listen to the music. I start laughing and flip the guy a thumbs up as I grab some throttle. The song he was listening to was oh so appropriate for me and the ride this morning.

The song? It was Queen's We Will Rock You.
