Ad-Aware help ..... please

I have been having a bunch of popup and strange things appearing on my computer lately.
So I searched around on Lit and found some discussions on Ad-Aware, downloaded it, ran it and now how do I decide what to delete from the 196 item list of stuff it found.
At least 40 of the items found are EzuLa which Ad-ware discribes as thiefware so I guess EzuLa should go but after that I am lost.

Anyone have a clue because I sure don't.

Well, I must say I've never had Ad-Aware target something it shouldn't. Meaning it's never tried to delete my MS Word files or Media Player or anything else it shouldn't. I know a friend who had trouble like that with a firewall program - it kept going after Windows media player for some reason.

I'd reccommend dumping all of it, as long as it isn't something you recognize. Certainly anything that says medium or high risk in the item's description should go. You can dump tracking cookies, I do, but if you surf the net they will keep coming back. Certainly anything it finds in your registry should be removed.

Has anyone experienced Ad-Aware dumping files it shouldn't be? I haven't and if no one else has I'd just advise you to dump it all.

Everything I've clicked on so far is low risk.
And I just noticed that all the catagories are either Data Miner or Malware.
Some have discriptions of what they are other s don't.

Hmmmm, Bargin Buddy is a high risk!

What about Alexa? Can that go too?

Ok, I deleted everything.
Came here to check this thread and then reran Ad-Aware just for the hell of it and what pops up but a porn dialer. LOL
Either I missed it the first time around, it's from here or it's unkillable.
Who knows?
Certainly not me. LOL

(once several ..versions ago..) it lost my internet connection but version 6 seem solid

please feel free to come and find me on yahoo ( pa_heys ) or on aim ( pheys) and I will be glad to help you walk though the things you have in yoru adaware quarentine and help you clean them up,, I won't say I am the worlds expert, but this type of thing is what I do for a living and have had a lot of experinece with adware, spyware and thiefware. I won't be only any longer today, but I will on all day tomorrow and starting next week most evenings as well.

Is this an XP/NT 4 system? You get popups when connected but no browser open? If so, AdAware won't do it. I have a like at the office that will, though. And it's free. Not 29.95 to get MessageBusters to stop bothering you.

The other thing that helps for the message items is a good firewall. Most of those types of messages are directed at your IP address.

I have a firewall and it is what started me realizing that there was some strange stuff going on. The porn dialer will not die but my firewall is blocking it from connecting. Thank God.

AmFig: Yes, I am running Windows XP. Beyond that, you lost me. The pop ups have pretty much stopped. A few here and there but I can handle that. It's the porn dialer that has me stumped now. If someone is going to dial up porn I'd rather it be me then some computer ... hehehe

Artifex: 2 Firewalls, an Aniti-virus and now 2 Anti-spyware programs. Sheeeeeeeh ... this is worse than safe sex. At least with safe sex is just a one condom.

I would set ad-aware aside to tell you the truth..I use window washer.

I thiunit does WAY better then ad_aware and since it is designed for windows it won't delete a directory you need

If your goal is just to get rid of pop-ups then try a product called Avant Browser (www.avantbrowser.com). It is a browser shell for Internet Explorer. Once installed you can block pop-ups under the tools menu. It will give you an alert and noises when it blocks something, if you want it to.

If you use it, just remember you are using it. Sometimes it blocks pop-up windows that you may actually want to see or need.

I've used both Ad Aware and Spy-Bot. The thing I like about Spy-Bot is that once it removes something, like Alexa, it won't allow it back in. They call it innoculating.

I've never used Window Washer, but Spybot is free!
