It's not only about their type of faith, although it's possible that as a second gemeration born in the States, she fell pray to radicalized groups.

Most Iranians that I met -those who decided to leave their country- made a point of claiming that they are Persians, not Arabs. They also liked Europeans a lot more than they liked other Middle Easterners.
Some even described Islam as being the oppressive ideology of Arab conquerors.

If so, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Adequate mental health care is the ONLY thing that will stop people who are mentally ill from hurting themselves and others.

It won't work every single time, but it will work at rates greater than anything else you are proposing. But you don't want to push for universal health care, or adequate mental health care... you'd rather scapegoat.

True dat. Although adequate therapy is a necessary part of healing, pills just don't cut it by themselves, especially when they come with disclaimers about suicidal and 'unusual' behaviours.
Obviously she suffered from comorbid mental health issues and treating the symptoms with medications makes Big Pharma happy but doesn't solve the root cause of her issues.

I'm on the same wavelength as you are on this one.

When I refer to mental illness in this context it's more figuratively speaking.
Not only mental illness in the clinical sense (psychoses and so on) -
but also the disgrunted personalities who lack empathy and blame others and end up taking it on others when they encounter hardship.

I suspect that Nasim belonged to the first category, and maybe treatment would have made a difference. But can you detect all of them and send them to a doctor in time?

But Ted Cruz belonged to the second one -hard to detect or fix-.
And I'm just as critical as you are of the NRA and the gun nuts who are trying to scapegoat the Health System or whatever, instead of looking in the mirror.

It's a lot harder to gun down perceived enemies with proper gun legislation. The prevalence of guns makes it a lot easier for any one with impulsive behaviour and a grudge to go on a shooting spree.
