A few days ago, I received a questionnaire from the ACLU. I filled it out, but they won't like what I said. I am strongly in favor of civil rights but, from reading it, I had the impression they meant for only a relatively few people, and they are all leftists. I let them know how I feel.

You don't know shit about the ACLU.

Example of a question in said questionaire that gave you that impression?

ACLU membership probably skews left. The people they represent, though, come from all walks of life and all political persuasions--the Nazis in Skokie come to mind.

It's funny, though. Whether their positions are outrageous or righteous depends on whose ox is getting gored: https://www.aclu.org/feature/end-mass-surveillance-under-patriot-act.

I never do understand why people ignore their work across partisan lines

I mailed the questionnaire in, and I don't remember the exact wording. However, most of the questions were on the order of: How concerned are you about Donald Trump's efforts to stifle freedom of speech. There were two that asked how concerned I am about the Republicans' efforts to destroy the rights of LGBT etc. I answered - honestly - that I am very concerned. :(:(

I think part of that stems from the fact that most people don't believe their liberties will ever need protecting. Sort of like the idea that only guilty people get indicted.

And part of it stems from the fact that many people who need the benefit of constitutional rights are unpopular or have done something to make them unpopular. The ACLU has represented a lot of people ostracized by society.

Do you really mean what you said or is your double negative an error?

I know they support a lot of things I oppose, but I also agree with them on some matters.

As do I. As I presume most people do.

What I object to is their picking and choosing sides. When it comes to Constitutional Rights, the PEOPLE are always the side to support. The government is not. The ACLU has too often sided with the government directly and often silently failing to oppose.

What I enjoy in watching the Left defend their institutions is the ability to find or cherry-pick an example or two which proves their cherished organizations are not Liberal/Progressive.

Take the Southern Poverty Law people, for example...

The only thing anyone here is going to check for is a conservative terrorist organization that the SPLC has redefined as a Leftist group for their one example of objectivity...

;) ;)

Like they found the name of one Liberal group (who was given approval) to prove the IRS was not targeting conservative groups. Because the IRS, like the DOJ under Obama, never, ever played political hardball.

They're a huge part of the racism industry.
