Ace Combat Zero: The Aether Guard

A beeping sound erupted in all cockpits, a warning used by the AWACS to state mission objective changes or any other extremely important information. Just as the beeping sounded, the first blips started appearing on the top of the radar screens.

"Wind Read here. The Sapin Airforce has been engaging the Belkans for a while, and are having a bad time at it. We'll take over air combat operations as planned. The enemy the Saps have been facing are now three F-16Cs, another three F-16Cs, and four Mig-29s. Crow will take on the Migs, Fenrir will take on the F-16Cs. Brigand, slip in from the east and attack the targets. That's all!"

For so young a commander, Wind Read kept himself fairly composed. Miranda could tell he was a good fellow to have above.

"Ok people, you heard him!" Her radar displays changed to highlight Fenrir's objectives.

The F-16Cs were at high altitude, dealing with three Sapin F-14s. The Mig-29s were attacking the Sap ground forces... but then they changed course for them. They seemed to be overly confident, and well appraised of the situation.

"Very well, let's do this! Fenrir 2, follow me, we are attacking the northern-most Falcons. Fenrir 3, you and 4 deal with the closest. We will speed past the Migs at maximum speed, we will distract them for a few seconds for Crow to get the advantage. Brigand, you do your thing."

Miranda pulled the throttle and accelerated slowly, letting Fenrir 2 tail her closely. She would have to work with Vanya on this, and hope for the best from the Belkan mercenary. Oh, and Ivanova too... Jack would have to keep up with her in his Harrier. She was worried about what Fenrir's performance would be like in this, their first battle together, but that worry disappeared as adrenaline surged forwards, and her body was pushed against her seat by the Gs.

Ok... here we go...

Miranda offered a short, hardly pious prayer for Shadow to find that AWACS as soon as possible. Once the Belkans were done with the Saps, or these retreated, it would be a full-blown dogfight with enemies that outnumbered them, nevermind the AA defenses. Those were still a distance away, and Brigand could slip in if they glided a few feet over the ground, but the Belkans would probably try to attract them to their coverage net and things would become a furball quite fast. Arming her missiles, Miranda spared glances at the radar as she watched the distance between the mercenaries and the Belkans disappear at a fast rate...

----

The Stealth's radar picked up signals two minutes before Miranda entered attack speed. Four aircraft high above, roughly at 25.000 feet. One of the signals was noticeably bigger... this one was the AWACS, no doubt, but what would the other three be? When the F-117 was close enough, Uriem would know...

OOC: The combat will take place by turns, each lasting around 20 seconds. This first turn, nothing can be fired. Next, only XLAAs. Next, only XMAAs. At the start of the following one, enemies will be within multi-role missile and gun range.

That's four turns. Brigand goes past all that and straight to the ground targets.

When you post your attacks, do it this way: God-mod your maneuvers, and then finish with the attack you intend to use (or if you use no attack, don't write that). I'll tell you if the attack works. This is more so you can have free reign in writing some Top-Gunish fiction than for me to judge the dogfight, though.

Studying the signals on his screen, Uriem pulled the Stealth up, heading towards the signal. An escort ... that would make things rough. He would have to shoot straight and fast, then get out of there just as fast, lose them in the clouds. Lusia's Viggen couldn't take three of them, of that he was sadly certain.

Michaella.

As Fenrir one and two broke off for their target Michaella Said on her comms to Reaper "I vill go high you take low meet you at the third of our responsibility."

She kicked the flaps of the Gripen one way and yanked the throttle to kick her bird into a steep climb. Kicking in her afterburners she blazed forward shifting her weapons to her XMAA's.

Picking her first target she began maneuvering for a twin target lock on it. The adrenaline started pumping as she got closer to combat. Her heart began racing and her mind cleared of all of her jokes. It was time to remind her Belkan brethren why she was called Kaiserin.

Jack smiled, not bothering to respond over the radio. He simply tweaked his control stick a bit, and started to drop, before adjusting the throttle and streaking down towards the specified target. His hope was to get to the enemy before the enemy got to him. Of course, that might be difficult, considering he wasn't alone in the sky.

Luisa angled her Viggen's nose up, gaining a bit of altitude, and toggled the first of her Sidewinders, her eyes searching for any fighters on intercept with Uriem.

Though she didn't like it, her steadfast dedication to duty and the mission prevented her from closing onto his wing for now, though her hand was gripped tightly over the throttle, ready to pounce on any aggressors.

It was all Cindy could do to not fall over howling laughing at what the Doc had accomplished with Mayana. One quick set of stitches and here was Maya stumbling around the base when a mission was happening. "Okay Maya, let's just take it nice and slowly. No need to fall over from rushing."

Cindy led the girl down to the operating room and Opened the office door calling into it "Hey Doc, Your patient is back!"

Kayla looked up from the book she had been reading saying "So, what's up Miss Del'Cruz? Shouldn't you be in bed?"

Mayana giggled, swaying a bit on her feet. She had a hard time not to crack down in laughter, or her legs to give way. The drunken mechanic leaned heavily on Cindy. Looking through narrowed eyes, Mayana tried to focus on the doctor, her tongue sticking out from the effort.

"Why is there two of you...?"

The warning alarms started going off as Fenrir 1 and 2 rushed towards their targets. The Migs were already aiming their SAAMs at them, waiting for them to come into range before firing. However, at this angle of attack, they couldn't hope to hit the F-15s. It was the first Falcon team that was a threat to them, not the Migs. As Fenrir 3 and 4 moved in behind 1 and 2, Miranda saw Crow disperse and prepare to engage the Migs.

"Ok, time to start the fireworks!"

Miranda selected the XLAAs, the two she had, and took aim at the blips in front of her. The Migs were way below her cockpit view, while the first Falcon team was in front of her, and the second a bit above and still fighting with the Saps who couldn't retreat yet. With a couple switches flicked up, the on-board computer gave her the readings on her targets. The Falcons fighting the Saps seemed to have a greater advantage over the bigger, less maneuverable F-14s. These were her targets, she mused, as the pressure on her body rose, pushing her harder against her seat.

"Fox 1, Fox 1!"

The two missiles fell off their pylons as the clamps opened. Then, their engines ignited, and the two tiny points roared away like two lions moving to pounce on a prey, leaving behind a thick, white streak of smoke. Quickly switching to her XMAAs, Miranda prepared to enter into contact with the Migs and Falcons. Going head-first was suicide, but not if you entered at the right angle and at maximum speed, which was Miranda had always excelled at.

Sparing a glance behind her, she saw Vanya maneuver his F-15 on par with hers.

"Wind Read here. Fenrir 1 and 2, the enemy is locked on to you. Fenrir 3 and 4, you guys too. I think the Migs will try to hit Fenrir 3 and 4 to block Crow off with a dogfight while the Falcons engage 1 and 2... wait, I have messages incoming!""

"Thiss iss Lanza 1, Sapin Air Force! Iss it you, Valais?"

Kayla stood up and walked over to Mayana taking her elbow and nodding to Cindy who shot her a glare before heading back to her station at the rescue helo. "Now Miss Del'Cruz let's get you comfortable so you can rest."

Kayla caught a whiff of the girl's breath. Damn, she must have drank the whole bottle. Must remember to include instructions with that stuff.

Michaella.

The Gripen screamed upwards under it's afterburners. As Kaiserinn hit the right altitude she throttled down just long enough to yank on the control yolk and kicked the foot peddles to get the flaps in position. The nose of the bird angled down into the position to aid the targeting system. Soon Michaella's ears were assaulted with the tone of twin target locks on her target as well as the G-force alarm screamed at her. Her thumb double pumped the firing mechanism and the two XMAA's released and their motors kicked to life sending the twin impliments of death screaming at her first target.

The G-force alarm continued to scream as the Gripen used the added velocity of gravity to her engines as she kicked the bird up to full military throttle. The adrenaline pumped through her veins as she accelerated faster and faster trying to save her remaining XMAA's by getting into closer combat range.

Narrowing my eyes, a curse slips through my lips. The AWACS has escorts. SU-27, nasty lil buggers with quite a bit of speed. There was no way I wasn't going to show up on their screens the second I launched.

Opening up a tight channel to Lusia. "Heads up Angel. Things are about to get crazy. Just keep yourself alive, hear me?"

Arming the first XMAA, I opened the doors, knowing that right now there radar would be screaming at them. Firing it off, I closed the doors and went evasive, heading for the clouds. If the first shot missed, I would have to slip in closer without the SU-27's spotting me and fire off at point blank range. A difficult prospect considering that the closer I got, the larger my radar signiture would get.

"First moves been made. Now ... lets see if we take anything."

"Got it," Luisa replied to Uriem's transmission, her spirits bouyed by the concern she heard in his voice. She'd been worried she'd offended him earlier somehow, but now, it felt like a great weight had been lifted from her mind.

She targeted the first of the Su-27s to turn towards Uriem and anxiously awaited the screech of the Sidewinder's target lock. As soon as she heard it, she released the missile from its pylon, watching it streak away.

"Fox one!" she called out, following the weapon's course towards the enemy plane.
