Modern technology puts us in easy communication with nearly every other person on the planet with a few taps of the finger.

Ok, we’ve all done it; sent a text to the wrong person, replied to the wrong thread. Combine this with adult promiscuity and it’s a recipe for embarrassment, humiliation or even debachery.

I’m sure there are other threads out there about this topic but I cannot find them. This is less a story idea as it is a call to spitball ideas of what possible scenarios could occur.

I’ll start. Accidentally sending a saucy pic to your mother/father (instead of your friend) of a sexy outfit you’re getting around Valentine’s Day. The outfit leaves little to the imagination.

What happens from there?

Daughter sends text to dad mistakenly instead of her bf about how much she enjoyed sucking him off that night.

Or mom sends something similar to son or Daughter?

Woman sends a sexy pic to her husbands friend rather than her husband.

The possibilities are endless.

Maybe hard to search for but this is a very common scenario around here w/levels of variation.

What I've always thought would add interest to this idea (which is needed) is NOT starting with the raw sexual picture.

Go through a text/sext chain where both participants slowly rev each other up blissfully ignorant this is NOT the one they've been courting finally succumbing to their advances in the most rewarding way possible.

Let the attraction fester, over a few sessions, especially at off hours.

Take care for any identifying conflicts (pictures mostly give the game away, work details, speech peccadillos or heavy/light emoji usage telling on the age/internet savvy of the participant.)

Have the texters fall in love with the idea of this sort of seduction being a sexual outlet and enrichment to the imagined sex life with their perspective new partner. This allows for plausible conflict when the reveal occurs but the "fallen hard" has happened.

Can also do candids that only show parts which aren't so easily aged.

If it's Dad/Mom or some other regular relationship in their life that affects them (boss, mentor, etc.) you also have a surprise angle to work with if the other 1/2 never would assume the other would be courting anyone, especially to such a significant, sexual extent.

Honestly, the gratuitous pic is so hot the other party can't help themselves despite relationship boundaries is simplistic enough to have been overdone.

Falling for (either romantically or sexually depending on the gender focus of the piece) occurring before a reckoning.. (via the reveal) has real development potential.

I think I might use this idea for a story, starting with a harmless text sent to the wrong person and taken out of context - a surprise for both the sender and receiver - the possibilities are endless; because of my interests I will probably use it in some sort of gender-bending way. hmmm got me thinking ...

This reminds me of those old TV plots from decades ago where somebody would change their mind about sending a letter and they would then try to retrieve the envelope from the mail box. I don't think you can ask the post office not to deliver a letter. Once it crosses the mailbox door or the mail slot in the office, it's gone.

I have occasionally sent an email or text to the wrong person and sometimes that has been mildly embarrassing. Anybody who sends lots of explicit photos or messages is asking for trouble because eventually they will make a mistake. I'd guess that maybe 10% of inadvertent recipients would respond favorably and the rest would be offended or annoyed even if they try to hide it. It entirely depends on who that person is.

I just did this this weekend :(

Meant to send a text to the guy I cheated on my husband with and instead sent it to a friend of mine. Now I am freaking out!!

I've gotten texts and cell phone voicemails from people I've never met, like some office worker in California who mistyped the info. If I remember to do it, I usually get back to them and say something like, "You should know that Bob never got your message about the meeting on Friday." Sometimes they thank me for alerting them.

The worst I have ever done was, while browsing porn on work computer (with on itself is unforgivable sin, but it was previous century and I didn't have reliable internet at home, and I was spending time in the office long after business hours, the incident in question happened like about 10 PM, possibly because building security checked on me "advising" to leave), I accidentally set a random picture as the desktop background and didn't notice before switching it off.

Next morning the first who used that computer was none other than my boss's young wife, who somehow saw deliberate similarities between the nude tenis player on the screen and herself... well, they were of similar complexion, body type and even shared long blond braids, but until her suggestion I never had considered it that way. And as I said it absolutely was a stupid accident.

And... no, I wasn't fired on the spot, as unbelievable it may sound. It's a weird world out here.

That reminds me of a story I heard years ago from a coworker about a former coworker of theirs. In the days before massive internet cooking sites, this guy had been saving recipes from the internet for years on his hard drive in various text files and decided he’d make copies of these recipes on CDs and give them as an inexpensive Christmas gift to all of his work colleagues. He gets to work before everyone one and places one on everyone’s desk and goes about his business until the next employee gets to the office and puts the disk into her computer. Well, her settings were such that any media in the folder would automatically play. Just so happens this guy had one tiny little grainy porn video that starts playing as soon as she puts the disk in. HR and managers were alerted and there was a mad dash to get all of the disks back before anyone else played it. Apparently, the worst part was this guy had to call his wife to recall all of the copies she’d taken to her work to hand out as well.

I once got a couple of voicemails from a woman I didn't know. The first one told a man, who I could only assume was her boyfriend, in about as sexy of a voice as I've ever heard where and when to meet her. The very next message was a swear word-filled tirade from the same woman blasting this poor guy named Robert because he didn't show up.

I played the messages for my wife. After the first message, she was kind of pissed because of how sexy the woman sounded in the message. Then after hearing the second message, my wife convinced me that I should do this Robert fellow a favor and call the woman to let her know she was leaving messages at the wrong number. She didn't answer so I ended up leaving her a voicemail.

A couple of days later I got a text from this woman apologizing for leaving the messages at the wrong number. She also said she didn't pick up because she really thought my number was Robert's and she didn't want to talk to the asshole. She went on to explain that Robert was her fiance and she was pretty sure he was cheating on her using a "secret phone" (which had my number). I showed this text to my wife and she laughed. Then she took my phone and wrote a text back to the woman giving her sincere sympathy in a way only a woman can do. The woman sent a text back thanking me for being so understanding and said that she almost sent a text with a photo of her screwing her next-door neighbor instead of chewing him out.

I guess that relationship is over.

swear word-filled tirade from the same woman blasting this poor guy

One lovely day I'm hiking along a river. My phone rings, showing an unknown number. I took it.

Without any introduction, there's a long string of obscenities (mixing colorful lexicon of a handful of languages as isn't uncommon around here) with the condensed meaning aproaching something like "what fucking hell hole have you fucking disappeared in, the fucked up motherfucker?"

"I'm on the riverbank."

"Wtf riverbank #%#@@£¥₩€.... "

I calmly described my immediate whereabouts, without saying where that is. After the next string of obscenities ran out, I asked "and where you think I'm supposed to be?"

She tried to tell me, but in her agitated state I still didn't quite cath am I supposed to work for her, fuck her, or what, so I asked just that. That question finally clued her in she might not speak with whom she thinks, so I never got a straight answer. She didn't drop however, even sort of tried to apologize, while kept cursing on whomever he was. Even sorta offered me a job, or was that flirting? Either way I turned that offer down.

Interesting concept, I have tried a few times to incorporate into a story but all have gone sideways and that part got killed in editing.

Several years ago I was part of a very large text group for a company I did work for. One afternoon I got a text as part of that with a picture of one of the admin assistants in a while not reveling but very provocative pose with the text that she was waiting for a certain IT guy in the old conference room. Not thinking he texted back that he had thought she was meeting him in the new conference room and would be right there.

My understanding is that they were both suspended without pay for a week or two and had to go to HR counseling.

I think a good starting premise would be meeting someone in person and having he or she put their number in your phone but they get it wrong and a flirtatious text string leads to a IRL encounter.

Another somewhat of a noncon would be a person sending explicit pictures or video to the wrong person who then uses it as blackmail to force the sender into even more comprising situations.

Wise decision 😂
Obviously, but had she been just as angry, but a tad bit more polite and sympathetic and offered anything anywhere close to my interests, I was quite open and potentially agreeable right then.

Sure it's quite low probability to randomly call someone of the same specialty of a no-show worker. Someone single and potentially interesting is perhaps more likely. Even more interesting if the first name match, so a prolonged more polite conversation becomes more likely.

That cut probabilities sure, but improbable things happen. One of my grandfather's brothers after death of his first wife married a widow he found mourning at a grave bearing his exact name, first and last, a quite rare name. And yes, she survived him too.
