Dot and Oliver have ben married almost seven years. They each have heard of the "seven year itch".
Each is certain that the other will succumb to temptation, but believes that they won't themselves.
Each wants to give a "hall pass" to the other, but each is afraid to start the conversation, lest the other thinks that they want a hall pass too or are just testing.
How do they finally have the conversation? (does one tee up the movie with Marilyn Monroe? If so, how do they explain why?)
What is the outcome?
If they agree to mutual hall passes, what are the terms?
Do they use the passes? (of course they do)
What is the outcome?

I'd drop them in a situation where temptation is off the chart.
Dot's best friend Katie is newly married to man, Jeff who has been a nudist his entire adult life and his new bride has embraced this freedom. After their first year together, they want to invite our main characters to vacation with them at a nudist resort that's known to be lifestyle friendly.
"You don't have to fuck anyone, else, just come and enjoy this with us," Katie says. "I know you Dot, and I think you'd enjoy a nude beach. Besides, you're both fit and hot as fuck. Why not give it a try? There are other resorts nearby if it's not for you."
So, they go and in truth, they do have a good time. End up back at the room wildly turned on and have crazy sex.

Depending on your tastes, the story can end there with Dot and Oliver embracing this new dynamic. Or perhaps Katie smiles seductively at Dot over a half empty mojito one evening and smiles. "Jeff likes you, and I've always had a thing for Ollie."
Dot blinks in surprise. "What ... what are you suggesting?" she asks, her heart suddenly racing. Katie giggles and just shrugs nonchalantly biting her bottom lip.
"Think about it."

Pandora's box is suddenly open, and they have to rethink their entire lives.

having done nine chapters of Nude Beach Bride, and running out of gas before the end of the honeymoon, I think I'm nude beach wrung out, but YMMV

Fair point. How about something non-tropical, like a hot spring at a resort on the foothills? We have some really isolated ones here in Idaho, open all winter and it would be a great location for some swapping. Sweat lodges and saunas and so forth. Snow shoeing, skiing, sledding and igloo building would be great daytime fun activities with your clothes on, but there are no swimsuits allowed in the hot spring. Sometimes an out of the ordinary setting is all you need to put a fresh spin on a well-used plot.
