I submitted a story and it was accepted...so I'm not a bitter member with a rejected story, but I was just wondering what stories were accepted and rejected based on. I know the guidelines about length and that subject matter could play a role. I was really just curious what types of things would be "deal breakers" so to speak. Puncuation? Spelling? Things that might be caught by an editor? I'm still new to this so this might be a silly question...

the only silly question...

is the one you dn't ask! I've had one story rejected because the editor misread or misunderstood what I was saying. I had two characters in their teens and they kissed in the back of a van. There wasn't any sex, just kissing but it was rejected anyway. I edited that part and took out that they were seniors in high school and then it was accepted. A friend had a story rejected because of too many misspelled words. They weren't actually misspelled she was just trying to type the words like the character would say them. she resubmitted the story with a note to the editor about this concern and then her story was accepted.

I'm finding out it all depends on the editor one gets in the review process, or perhaps they are just cracking down on the grammar of newer stories. hope this helped some.;)

Thanks! It did help. I'm toying with the idea of another story, but I don't want to go into it blind like I did this last one. Want to make sure that this one that was accepted wasn't just a fluke or luck. Thanks again.

Not a problem.
You might want to look through the how to's section. I've found many helpful things in there.
What I meant to say was the writer's resources

What's the link to your story? I'd like to read it.

I almost back clicked. First person, present tense. Usually, these just don't get me. This was good and I enjoyed it.

Her(his) story is Light the Night on Fire.

Seems Elly is a she according to her bio. Just sayin. :)

I went back and read it and found some tense mistakes. When I wrote it, I went from "he" to "you" and then had to go back and switch everything....then decided I wanted "he" again, but was too lazy to go and correct everything again. In the mix up though, I noticed I missed a couple "he's." How would I go correct that, or is it final? I also caught some spacing errors... I'm one of "those" people that having those in there will drive me bananas! :)

Make the corrections in your orignal, then submit a story with the same name as he sory to be edited plus "-- EDIT --" eg to edit "My story" submit "My Story -- EDITED --"

Put a note in the comments field summarizing the changes made so the editor knows what to look for in approving the edit.

One thing that won't directly cause your submission to be rejected, but a lot of rejected stories seem to have in common -- Rich Text Format or .RTF file format. Lit's sumbission process seems to have problems converting some RTF files -- possibly heavily edited files -- and some very strange results can get posted.
