I honestly think bringing this up on this forum is useless.

But the recent effort by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson seems to have reinvigorated the left to a degree worth discussion.

And I'm also seeing some interest from the right.

They do seem to want to break through the Molasses of process of the left. Is this a worthwhile endeavor ?

Okay, I'm in.
Good high level synopsis of the new book Abundance HERE

I've admired Ezra Klein as a writer and I think his ideas are worth discussing.

Going to queue up Klein appearance on Colbert's show last month and I've put his book on reserve on my library's ebook waiting list.

Noticed that his book is number 4 on Amazon bestsellers (side note: when the fuck did ebooks rise to $30?) and that there are already two insta-summaries for sale on Amazon for a book that has been out less than a month.

Thank you for the input. He's been on almost all of my podcasts in the past month (his was already one I listened to), including some right leaning ones.

I think the approach is refreshing and actually hits interests of all ideologies. But haven't read the book yet.

Yes, it is time for the Democrats to face up to their failures and the destruction they have brought down on the American people. They never will, they will lie and blame it on Trump and lose every election henceforth.

This has nothing to do with my thread. Either comment on the content or stfu

I did. You should read your own source:

"Abundance explains that our problems today are not the results of yesteryear’s villains. Rather, one generation’s solutions have become the next generation’s problems. Rules and regulations designed to solve the problems of the 1970s often prevent urban-density and green-energy projects that would help solve the problems of the 2020s. Laws meant to ensure that government considers the consequences of its actions have made it too difficult for government to act consequentially. In the last few decades, our capacity to see problems has sharpened while our ability to solve them has diminished.

Progress requires facing up to the institutions in life that are not working as they need to. It means, for liberals, recognizing when the government is failing. It means, for conservatives, recognizing when the government is needed. In a book exploring how we can move from a liberalism that not only protects and preserves but also builds, Klein and Thompson trace the political, economic, and cultural barriers to progress and propose a path toward a politics of abundance. At a time when movements of scarcity are gaining power in country after country, this is an answer that meets the challenges of the moment while grappling honestly with the fury so many rightfully feel."

No, you didn't. You literally just googled shit to pretend that you have relevance while spewing the same horseshit regarding Democrats that you always do.

I clicked on your link, ya dumb fuck. I quoted what was right there. Again, no party has governed longer in America at the national level than the Democrats. They must face up to what they have wrought before they will ever redeem themselves politically.

Yes, you continue to have nothing to offer. Maybe you should make another thread about how the Democratic party is done.

I ordered my copy earlier today. What I've been hearing is all about reducing regulation on housing and investing in technology advances, including infrastructure and healthcare.

I'm curious if they discuss 3d printing as well, which has been used in prototypes for housing.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay?

I've seen prices all over the map from $15.99 to $30.00. Books-a-million had an ad for only $6.99 on Google, but I clicked it and it's full price ($30). Weirdly, the audiobook edition is only $7.99 at Audible. (I don't have the patience to listen to audiobooks, sadly).

I got the hardcopy for $21

In new urbanism circles, the battle lines are drawn between YIMBY and NIMBY, not left and right. Left NIMBYs and Right NIMBYs often collude to block dense urbanism. Right NIMBYs like their cars and suburban sprawl. Left NIMBYs want to preserve the cozy aesthetic of their traditional neighborhoods. Ironically there don't seem to be any YIMBYs on the right. Even the libertarians want more suburban sprawl.

I hadn't heard much about nimbyism as a term until this past few months where the term is popping up more.

It certainly is blocking housing as well as nuclear power. People need to get over their bullshit and allow both to be built
